Jaffer, after a dismal Test tour of Australia, has been in solid form during the Ranji Trophy one-dayers. His 349 runs at 116.33, with a best of an unbeaten 178 from just 132 balls, are a main reason Mumbai top their group. The West team comprises names such as Rohit Sharma, who scored 235 runs in ten innings during India's CB Series triumph, Ajit Agarkar, Parthiv Patel, Yusuf Pathan, Under-19 winner Iqbal Abdullah and Munaf Patel, who also featured in the tour of Australia. Sourav Ganguly and Manoj Tiwary have been named in the East team, as has another victorious U-19 player, Saurabh Tiwary. i think salil is talking about shikhar dhawan, who was the mos in 2004 u-19 wc making 505 runs. he & chopra seem to be in a smashing form this season in ranji odis. dhawan avges 50+ in domestic odis and should be given a chance in the indian team as an opener. aakash chopra avging 332 with 3 100s in a 1-day tournament:omg: what has he started eating these days. we will c if he is really a 1-day player in the deodhar trophy later on. also, the ranji odis should be played in a elite-plate format just like the ranji trophy 4-day tournament and have better pitches which help the bowlers. this season saw too many 300+ scores and most of the indian records in domestic odis were broken as well. the matches were played in super-flat pitches this season

Pujara? Dhawan? No, I'm talking about the most complete batsman in Indian domestic cricket right now. Facking WZ selectors - or probably the push from Baroda/Gujarat/the non Bombay states. HOW GODDAMN RETARDED DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO LEAVE AMOL OUT? Especially when a useless FTB like Kedhar Jadhav who'll never amount to much more than a journeyman is picked in the batting instead? (BTW, Dhawan's almost a sure fire shot in the NZ side. Fear not Amits)

RP Singh to play in Deodhar Trophy RP Singh, the Indian fast bowler, has said he would return to action in the Deodhar Trophy from March 14 after recovering from the hamstring injury which ruled him out of the CB series in Australia. Pankaj Singh, the fast bowler who also travelled with the team to Australia, will take two weeks to recover from a side strain. The two seamers had their fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore on March 4. RP had an extended session comprising of several laps around the Chinnaswamy Stadium, repeat sprints and six overs of bowling while Pankaj, who was originally scheduled to have his test on March 3, had a restricted session. "I am feeling fine and would be playing Deodhar Trophy," RP told Cricinfo. RP had already visited the NCA in February as part of his rehabilitation programme. Deodhar Trophy, the zonal limited-overs tournament, will be played at four centers in South Zone and RP, who plays for Central Zone, was confident he wouldn't face any fitness issues. RP played for India last in the final Test against Australia in Adelaide, pulling out of the Test after bowling four overs in the first innings. With Sreesanth and Munaf Patel injured, Pankaj Singh earned a selection in the Test squad but did not play a single international game. According to the new rules of the Indian board, players who have been out of action for a month will have to prove their fitness at the NCA ahead of any series. The players who only featured in the Test series in Australia have been at the NCA over the last couple of days. Sourav Ganguly, the last player to have his fitness Test, will be checking in tomorrow and will have RP for company.

Deodhar Trophy discussion (DO NOT MERGE W/ RANJI DISCUSSION) Manhas, who led North Zone to the Duleep Trophy title last month, failed to find a place in a team bolstered by the returning Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. More... Manhas dropped for Deodhar, Bhatia makes the grade Arjun Sen, Hindustan Times New Delhi, March 08, 2008 First Published: 23:00 IST(8/3/2008) Last Updated: 23:03 IST(8/3/2008) IN A baffling move, Delhi's Mithun Manhas has been left out of the North Zone team for the Deodhar Trophy squad. Manhas, who led North Zone to the Duleep Trophy title last month, failed to find a place in a team bolstered by the returning Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. According to sources in the selection committee, Manhas was 'unlucky' not to make it. Manhas, who has a career average of 52.16 in List A, said he was 'surprised at the decision'. While Manhas has failed to make it to the team, his Delhi teammate Rajat Bhatia, who had a torrid outing in last season's Deodhar, has managed to retain his place. Bhatia averaged a paltry 11.75 in the six matches he played. "It was a tough call, but in the end, he was edged out," said the source. Apart from Sehwag and Gambhir, the two India u-19 stars, Virat Kohli and Pradeep Sangwan, will also return to action in the tournament. Delhi has as many as seven players in the 15-member squad, and one in the four stand-byes. Manhas's exclusion is however not the only surprise in the squad. Punjab pacer Manpreet Ghony, who did not do anything of note in his five one-dayers (six wickets at 32.00), has also made it to the squad. Squad: Virender Sehwag (Captain), Gautam Gambhir, Aakash Chopra, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Bhatia, Pradeep Sangwan (all Delhi), Yashpal Singh (Services), Paras Dogra, Vikramjeet Malik, Vishal Bhatia (all HP), Uday Kaul, VRV Singh, Manpreet Ghony (all Punjab), Amit Mishra (Haryana) STAND BYES: Karan Goel (Punjab), Sunny Singh & Sanjay Bhudwar (Haryana), Puneet Bisht (Delhi)

Zonal selectors are fcking retards. First Amol gets left out of WZ because there are too many Bombay players (Aag, Nayar, Jaffer, Powar, Rahane), now the same happens to Manhas because he's from a team already sending in Sehwag, Chopra, Sangwan, Kohli, Gambhir and Bhatia. Hey jackasses - WHAT THE FK HAPPENED TO PICKING THE BEST ZONAL TEAM RATHER THAN THE MOST REPRESENTATIVE ONE FOR ALL ZONAL SIDES?

Heck.. I have said a number of times the last 3-4 years that Manhas deserves a try in the NATIONAL ODI side... and instead the politics/quotas from the fcuktards in the Haryana/HP/other crap teams in NZ won't let another Delhiite into the zonal lineup. Who gives a fk if a crap barrel scraping team like Gujarat, Maharashtra, HP or such gets their full representation in their zonal squad - if some of the best players in the country like Muzumdar or Manhas who could probably out bat a number of the national players are left out?

Hell, in Amol's case - he is a BETTER AND MORE COMPLETE batsman than Raina, Tiwari, Yuvraj, Rohit, Badrinath, Kaif - can still outbat any of the young and fringe players out there today. When you combine his abilities in grafting, making hard runs, improvising, innovating and attacking - he could compare favourably with the country's best... and this is a guy who was bracketed alongside Sachin two decades ago (and still is by many Bombayites)... Ridiculous treatment of a great cricketer.

mithun manhas should have been there in the deodhar trophy team in place of some cr@p cricketer of some other state and the same for muzumdar should have been done in for the west zone. aakash chopra seems to have made a phenomenal rise in domestic odis. not too long ago, he would struggle to get into the delhi team for ranji odis, not he has got into the zonal team after avging 332 in ranji odis

no joginder sharma as well in the north zone side. what has happened to joginder
Your answer is here Amits: T20 hero Joginder advised surgery, but says he’s fit for IPL P Sujesh Rajan Posted online: Sunday, March 09, 2008 at 0007 hrs New Delhi, March 8:Joginder Sharma’s last-over heroics instantly propelled him into the limelight during the World Twenty20 championship last September. But, out of the team since then, the only news he made after that fateful final against Pakistan was when he was signed by Chennai for Rs 90 lakh for the Indian Premier League (IPL). It has now been confirmed that Joginder is nursing a heel injury and had been advised surgery that could keep him out of cricket for a possible six months — which means he could miss the T20 tournament starting on April 18. “He had met me last month in Mumbai and I had advised him to undergo surgery but it’s up to him what he has to do. I can’t force him to have an operation,” Dr Anant Joshi, the board’s official orthopaedic specialist, told The Indian Express over the phone. But Joginder insists there is nothing to worry. “I am fit. I had problems in my left heel but I think I am almost okay now,” he said from Jaipur. “I got a second MRI done and sought a second opinion. My doctor told me that I have a ligament tear and can start bowling again in 10 days. I am confident of giving my best in the Indian Premier League.” The 24-year-old from Rohtak had sustained the injury in a Ranji Trophy plate match against Goa, where he claimed six wickets. He played with pain-killers until he could go no further after a match against Madhya Pradesh from December 9-12. He has been out of action for almost four months now and, despite being selected for North Zone in the Duleep Trophy and for Haryana in the Ranji one-dayers, he didn’t play a single game in either tournament. He has been overlooked for the Deodhar Trophy as well. Had this been a matter of Indian team selection, Joginder would have had to get Joshi’s certificate of fitness, but things will perhaps work differently in IPL. Some sources say that his insistence to avoid an operation is because IPL terms clearly state that if a cricketer plays less than four matches in a season due to injury, he will be entitled to only one-fourth of the total sum promised in his contract. Joginder is risking his career for money, they add. Joginder denies this. It’s hard to say whose opinion is right in this battle of two medical experts. But it does raise a question: Is the IPL money pouring into cricket really so big that players such as Joginder will go to any lengths to make sure they don’t lose out on some quick bucks, even at the cost of their future? ------------------------------------------------------- Along with this I also post the Squad for Central Zone Ravi Jangid Faiz Fazal Praveen Gupta Murali Kartik Praveen Kumar Naman Ojha Pankaj Singh Piyush Chawla Suresh Raina Himalaya Sagar R.P.Singh Tanmay Srivastava Mohammad Kaif (captain) Squad for South Zone Sarvesh Kumar Saurabh Bandekar Bharat Chipli Rahul Dravid Gnaneswara Rao Doddapaneni Kalyankrishna VVS Laxman Pragyan Ojha C Raghu S.Sreesanth Robin Uthappa Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan Murali Vijay Vinay Kumar Arjun Yadav Subramaniam Badrinath (captain) -------------------------------------------------- I can't recognise many of the players in Central Zone. And it looks as if the SZ squad is the strongest on paper!

Hope Joginder Sharma does not really risk career for quick bucks.
