What would have happened that SL team?

If the current Indian TM was responsible for it in the late 80s? Guys like Jayasuriya debuted in 89 and were struggling relatively.  Would likes of Jayasuriya have survived to win SL the WC in 1996?

SL is a small nation with limited resources. this is why they persisted with jaya so long - and it paid off. on a diff note, just look at how good ranatunga was in between 1989-94. A SR of 80 was very good then as was an avg of 40+. damn fine ODI player.

This is a hypothetical thread so we have to make some assumptions

SL in that era was nowhere and they had no option but to build core for a team. There was not other way out.

yes, attapattu had an even worse start to his test career but he became a highly effective HTB (although a midget abroad).
