Positives of the Nzl tour (so far)

Negatives have already been discussed so some positives

Rahul

is officially a super star now

is competent keeper

Can go from ball 1 in the lower Middle order 

Rahul If can continue this will create a lot of flexibility to accommodate an extra batsman/bowler/allrounder.

 

Shaw

Shaw is a box office player. Negatives have already been discussed but the kind of batsman you have to tune in to watch. Shows he belongs at the level with his batsmanship. To sustain he will need to improve other aspects.

 

Iyer

A little unconvincing with his technique but the guy can make runs regardless and has  been doing it with great consistency. Scores at a good rate as well.

 

Pandey

While I think other youngsters can be tried at his spot, his fielding ability and also the fact that right now is the safest option as a backup to

Iyer and other top order, he seems good enough. He can be trusted to get you a useless 30-40 in any condition.

Jadhav

Hopefully the end of his international career

 

Dube

 Was too raw when he got a shot, for now not ready. Will go back to the basics and work on his game. Upcoming IPl will be an opportunity as well.

 

3-0 brings the team back down to earth

I thought the 5-0 score line in T20s was flattering to deceive. Still loads of issues however the most important series in this tour are the tests, the 3-0 might be a blessing in disguise for the tests. Usually Kohli and Bewda need a kick on the backside to wakeup and  make normal/rational decisions.

 

Acclimatization

 

Hopefully the bowlers  Shami/Bumrah/Jadeja have had enough exposure this tour to find their lengths for the test matches in these conditions

Kohli showing patience with players- previously he use to chop n change any player with in 1-2 games atleast this time he didnt do that. Shaw , mayank got all 3 games....dube all games in t20. Right selection or wrong but who ever gets a chance deserves a fair run. 

 

Rahul given a fixed position - i feared that ll they again make him roam around the batting order and good that they didnt

 

Saini batting- atleast TM now knws he can hold bat, dont knw what eye does captain or coach keep in nets that they didnt find his out in nets. Hopefully he wont be discarded for that extra batting nonsense

Shaw- Brilliant talent and will be great for India in white ball formats. Needs to improve fitness and work on converting starts to big scores.

Iyer - Brilliant tour and I feel finally he has made the number 4 spot his own. I just hope there are no more experimentations by our great TM. Need to show faith and patience.

KL Rahul - Has become the player we all wanted him to be. His brilliant keeping is just an added bonus. Along with Kohli and Rohit, he is our batting mainstay in LO formats. Superstar in the making

Manish Pandey - Has had a decent tour. I wouldn't give up on him yet. He is an excellent fielder and has shown lots of maturity when things weren't going well with the bat for the team.

Chahal: I know that Kuldeep is the darling of people in this forum and would want him to play ahead of anyone but Chahal has shown great control and wicket-taking ability in this series and even before this series in ODIs. He has been considerably better than Kuldeep in ODIs since 2019. He should be a regular fixture until we are ready to try someone else in LO formats.

Negatives:

Jadhav - He is past his expiry date. Cannot bowl or field. Batting is strictly ordinary. Needs to go and should never be anywhere close to the national side in the future

Thakur - God knows what our captain and TM saw in this guy. Has been horrible with the ball. Just bowls freebies and gets wickets in the process. His batting is strictly for 15-20 runs at the max. Can't believe our captain wants a bowler like him just for those 15 runs. 

Dube - Another player who is over hyped and should never be anywhere near the national side. Can't bowl or bat. His fielding is atrocious as well. Don't think he is raw as the OP says. He is 26 years old and would need to make giant strides to improve from what he is now. Even if he has a good IPL, I will think twice before picking him. Needs to increase his pace by at least 10 Ks an hour consistently and improve his game against fast bowling.
