ODI powerplay rule question for the gurus here

My old-fart brain is playing tricks on me - was there some change to the ODI powerplay rule that somehow blunted India's death-over/chasing strategy from early 2010s?  And the team never completely adapted to it?  Or is that totally my imagination?

You're not hallucinating. We don't have capable batsmen. Plain and simple. 

 

Only one or maybe 2 guys even have the power game even in the top order. Everyone knows about the middle order and the problem's it's been causing. The lack of proper BATTING All-rounders in shorter formats is also there.

Also our bowlers were never been able to even play proper strokes for most of their careers.

 

This has been the design for far too long.

More than powerplay rule , think its the 11th to 40th over game which perhaps is more critical . 

With change in rule in that phase of having only 4  fielders outside the circle , part time bowlers are not that effective now.

Earlier part time spinners like Raina , Yuvi were doing a good job. Also feel India is following old style of play during 11 to 40 overs even though rules have changed .

Also old mindset of attacking in the last 10 overs  will need a re visit as now 5 fielders are outside the circle. 

India will do well if they can be a bit more aggressive in 11-40 overs period  and develop certain skill sets in batting to  fully exploit that phase .

1. India should try atleast couple of players in MO who are good both against pace and spin and are good at finding gaps as well hitting over the circle in gaps  rather players who try to hit each & every ball for sixes .

2. Better game against change of pace , bouncers -  Most of the pacers in that phase  will try this stuff . Need to have game plan to counter this.

3.To tackle spinners , need to develop sweeps /reverse sweeps as there is always a gap available either at deep point or deep square leg for every ball . If they keep fielders at both places , they then they have only 2 fielders to use outside the circle . Imagine the kind of gaps available then.
