Yousuf, Gul in line for joining ICL

http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/007200804061762.htm Yousuf, Gul in line for joining ICL: sources Karachi (PTI): Having missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) bus, Pakistan run-machine Mohammad Yousuf may eventually return to the 'rebel' fold, according to sources. Yousuf is reportedly unhappy at missing IPL despite assurances by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which had earlier prompted him to back out of the deal he had with the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL). The ICL authorities subsequently filed a petition before a single bench arbitrator in Mumbai, claiming that he cannot play in the BCCI-backed venture after first signing with them. The arbitrator has reserved his order till April 30 but Yousuf is now seriously considering joining the ICL after some positive feedbacks from former captains Inzamam-ul-Haq, Moin Khan and former Test spinner Mushtaq Ahmed. Sources told PTI that Yousuf and some leading Pakistan players who are uncertain about their future with the Pakistan team and unhappy with the prevailing cricket condition in the country had shown interest in joining ICL next season. "Inzamam, Moin and Mushtaq have passed on very positive feedback about the ICL and the way it treats some leading players in Pakistan," a reliable source said. "The movement has started but nothing will be disclosed now because the current season is already halfway through," the source added. He said pacer Umar Gul and Yasir Hameed could also be among the next batch of players from Pakistan, besides Yousuf, to join the ICL.

When it comes to Pakistani cricket & their players, such rumours have always turned out to be true. I have been following these news reels about Pakistan, long enough to believe Yousuf is really on the way to ICL. A quick look at Yusuf's resume will tell you he is capable of such a thing: 1) Converted for Pakistani captaincy. 2) Turned to ICL the moment he was dumped from T20 team 3) Dumped ICL when he was offered $300K by PCB & promised IPL 4) Now entertaining thoughts of going to ICL, having been dumped by the IPL (Nevermind he is actually fighting a legal battle with ICL) Heck he may even come running to ICF if we offer him $100 for an interview! A true opportunist & an out & out mercenary!

a bit harsh wont you say? his conversion is really none of our business... its his discretion what his flavor of delusion must be... be it christianity or islam (spare a thought for what you would have thought of him if he had in fact converted to say hinduism?). as for the ICL and IPL situation, its all about money. players are running back and forth to mine the massive pot of gold for their share while their body and skills are still up there with the best. was the same criticism levied on Shane Bond when he deserted his team for ICL. yousuf's fluctuation between ICL and IPL is justified, for some strange reason, BCCI is forcing the rest of the world to promote its venture opposed to the ICL, a number of players have to choose between a misplaced sense of patriotism and monetary rewards. in the end, we dont think any less of NBA players who do not turn up for the Olympics. these guys are just like you and I, we work for IBM, Google, Yahoo today, and given an opportunity and enough motivation, would switch to some other organization without a moment's delay. Just as these professionals seek the best offer.
