Kumble's biggest problem has been that his leg break has stopped turning. Yes, it never turned much but the slight turn and straightening he used to get was crucial to his bowling. Impossible to say whether it's because of his injury or lack of rythm but his non bowling arm is coming down too quickly for him to relax in his delivery stride pushing the bowling arm through straight. Kumble knows an infinite amount more about spin bowling than I do, but just my two cents. For a contrast check out his bowling action during the '03-'04 series in Australia when his non bowling arm was just flowing through and gave him impeccable figures on the most unforgiving batting surfaces I have seen.

The pitch at Galle is tailor made for spiiners. There is grip, turn as well as uneven bounce. Yet Kumble has failed to strike in 22 overs today.
