Cant remember when was the last time Anil missed a match due to injury concerns and its not like he has been playing non-stop cricket all the time. After the Aussie tour, this was Anil first intnl assignment, unlike many of the team mates, who have been playing ODIs, yet he wasnt fully fit, which is worrying. India doesnt play another test match before late july, when they tour Sri Lanka and Anil will be almost 38 then.

He didnt look 100% in either of the 2 tests that he played and his bowling lacked a bit of variety that he showed in Australia (even in the Adelaide test, he pretty much broke down)

Its basically because he doesnt have anything more to achieve and also sees the new youth brigade dominating the cricket scenario. Plus of course his body has undergone lot of wear and tear so yeah he will call it quits pretty soon.

meemumbaikar Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 One of the greatest ever Indian cricketers who has been a amazing servant of the game in general and a great soldier who has become a general for India. I think Jumbo has finally reached the end of the line in terms of only one aspect and that is fitness-I think he should call it quits between now and 12 months from now. I would really want him to leave on a high with the world wondering if there was something more that we've missed out.

In the last 12 months, Anil has played 11 test matches, taken a respectable 47 wickets, but an exorbitantly high average of 37. If this series doesnt go well, how many here think he may hang his boots up?

If this series doesnt go well, how many here think he may hang his boots up? As against Harbhajan who has taken 39 wickets at an average of 40.41 .. If anything Harbhy needs to be dropped first ... At least Kumble is still averaging a respectable 26.61 with the bat as against 13 from Harbhy.
