Yup, flight planning is absolutely essential. An Air NZ flight crashed into the side of a mountain in Antarctica killing everyone on board. Long story short: before the flight, the wrong data was mistakenly loaded into the flight computer. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Erebus_disaster My hero Edmund Hillary was supposed to be on the flight. Lucky he didn't.
