Understand the intrepidation with COVID and all. That said, these were extenuating circumstances. Can't ummm and aaaah about these things. There is never going to be a "perfect" time to go - Just gotta go, work with what you have and deal with the rest later. Thought I'd share some pictures. EnterTheVoid Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 Going to Antarctica is an absolute mission in itself. A lot has to go right. It's hard enough to go there in the best of times, let alone in the middle of a pandemic. Proud as punch of everyone involved - Just focused on the job at hand and got the job done. Our compatriots at the Antarctica research stations - Mawson, Casey, McMurdo, Durmont D'Urville and others - hats off. Not easy doing what you guys do. Stuge 1

EnterTheVoid Posted February 3, 2021 Author Posted February 3, 2021 It was summer in Antarctica when I went - 24 hour daylight. As bright at 2:00 AM as it would be at 2:00 PM. Cold. Windy. Constant Daylight. And the ice acts as magnifying glass.

Conditions can change rapidly with little notice. Do what you need to do whilst the weather holds. Than, bail. I remember the Chief Instructor telling me this: "Listen, I run the show around here. I control everything except that (pointing to the clouds). That's up to God. But even he calls me up for advice sometimes".

I am going to live and work there for a couple of months. Thought I'd go and suss out the neighbourhood. As you'd do when moving somewhere new. The neighbours seem a bit distant, but. Now I kind of like it. In winter I kind of like it especially the freshness it bring and the quietness.
