India v NZ at World Cups in the 21st century

Kiwis haven't lost to India in World Cups since 2003 

 

 

Additionally, in Test series that count towards WTC:

• 2-0 in NZ 
• 0-0 in Ind so far ... The Mumbai test could turn out to be a tough game for Ind as well

We have a weird mental block vs them. All 5 times india lost the toss however. 

 

Could be a different story had the toss favoured india but regardless, it's a pathetic effort by the Indians.

 

Kiwis get wrecked by Aussies and Pakistanis consistently in WC events.

Not in 2007 …  Anyone who has followed cricket over a period of time knows that India has lost games v many teams despite winning the toss or won despite losing the toss.  

 

For e.g.  In 2003 WC F v Aus, it won the toss but lost the game. Against SL in 2011 F, won despite losing the toss. In 1983 F too WI won the toss but India won the game. 

Talking about SFs, won in 83 when Eng won the loss. Lost to Eng in 87 when Ind won the toss. 1996 lost to SL when it won the toss.

True. What about batting second? I believe most times we lost batting last iirc. Even in 2007 vs Kiwis i think we batted last? 

 

Regardless pathetic effort by Indians. Not sure why we struggle in icc post 2003 vs Kiwis.

Ind has won games batting 2nd too like in 2011 QF v Aus, 2011 F v SL, … 1983 SF, batted 2nd 

CT is not a World Cup but Ind lost to NZ in 2000 F batting first. 

If batting 2nd is an issue for Ind, there is no point in playing cricket.

Firstly we need to pick the right players lol. We don't even di that due to nepotism and politics etc. Let's fix test first and then worry about batting second.

Good teams do not worry about tosses anyways unless factors like dew or crumbling pitches play a huge role. In that scenario, they try to make up for shortfalls as well. 
 

In 2015 F v Aus, NZ batted first but Aus bowled superbly. In 2019 SF v Aus, Eng bowled and chased well. Even in F v NZ, Eng tied the game batting 2nd, so did NZ in the super over.
