I think it would have been better if played on the home grounds of the team competing with the homeground being of the team with more points and better run rate.

Doesn't work that way. Mumbai is BCCI headquarters, if it was Dalmiya, would have been eden gardens.. Yes, there's a little bias here

The semifinals and the finals would have sold out like hot cakes within a day once decided which teams get to the semis and then finals and which homegrounds they will be playing at. It would have definately been more fun and the team with more points and if tied, better run rate, rewarded for their efforts .
