Is it because they are the most expensive franchise and thus given the right? or for some other reason. I think it would have been better if played on the home grounds of the team competing with the homeground being of the team with more points and better run rate.

Yea, not fair and boring.... I agree with your idea:

I think it would have been better if played on the home grounds of the team competing with the homeground being of the team with more points and better run rate.

Maybe your god.... and am being serious here...The teams competing should play in front of their home crowds..Not in front of Mumbai.
God is universal. There is no "my God", "your God".

so I want to pre-book my tickets and leave it at the last moment? Doesn't work that way. Mumbai is BCCI headquarters, if it was Dalmiya, would have been eden gardens.. Yes, there's a little bias here

Why not? The semifinals and the finals would have sold out like hot cakes within a day once decided which teams get to the semis and then finals and which homegrounds they will be playing at. It would have definately been more fun and the team with more points and if tied, better run rate, rewarded for their efforts .
