BCCI set to drop many senior players from T20s (T20WC22 debacle)

Now BCCI has appointed a new selection committee (though some of the selectors have continued). Below is what we can expect:

Like the core group in ODIs, BCCI wants to create a core group for T20 team and only make addition and substractions based on the demand of the squad.

“Every team has a short-term and long-term plan. ODI World Cup is our short-term plan. T20 WC is of course the long-term plan. The cycle has already begun. But we won’t get as many T20s this year to keep preparing for the WC. Instead, we have to look for opportunities where we can to prepare the team. If you look at the current squad, it’s the right mix. We only need experience in bowling. In two years, they will get there,” the official said.

What is BCCI’s plan for India T20 Reboot?

  • Have a young team looking at a two-year span.
  • Rebuilding starts now under Hardik Pandya’s leadership.
  • The BCCI wants to have a core group of players for T20s like India have had for ODIs and Tests.
