BCCI set to drop many senior players from T20s (T20WC22 debacle)

Per various new reports:

While the fans in India and along with the players were left disheartened, a person familiar with matter in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said that many senior players are likely to be dropped from the T20 squad within the next two years.

Although it looks like Ravichandran Ashwin and Dinesh Kartik played their last T20, however, it seems like BCCI will leave it up to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to decide on their future in the short format game.

"The BCCI never asks anyone to retire. It is an individual decision. But yes, with just a handful of T20Is scheduled in 2023, most of the seniors will concentrate on ODIs and Test matches in that cycle," a BCCI person told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

"You don't need to announce retirement if you don't want to. You will not see most of the seniors playing T20 next year," the source added.

Whether it is dropping or not is irrelevant but this is a good step. I agree with the 30 age limit with exceptions.

Not only some exceptions bit 30 is actually peak age of many sportsmen. Old is mostly 35+.

As usual the assumptions, no retirement news yet.

Retirement is an individual's decision, if the player wants to go out with some dignity  ... From selectors' PoV:

"You don't need to announce retirement if you don't want to. You will not see most of the seniors playing T20 next year," the source added.

What was the pressing need to play Oldies in the T20WC? Was there any contract signed that they’ve to play in the WC? So winning trophy doesn’t matters?

Did they used this T20WC for a farewell holiday trip?

Probably baked into their contracts.

Not only do the old farts always play, they do so always in the key positions. Younger players visibly excluded.

The age of a player should be irrelevant, what should be the priority in assessing if "mature" player should remain in the team, first is current form, next is physical ability to field.

SKY is in his 30s has form and looks as in shape and as fit as any of our youngsters.

Then you compare this to Hitman, Pregnant, out of form and having the wrong strategies in place to win the WC.

The mint article is speculation. So , let’s wait till it happens

That is how PTI breaks news … Why are you so worried? … Are you not tired of always supporting these seniors for no reason in the end?

Sponsors, broadcasters insist on playing BIG players. There is also an element of professional presence. If you are not here, essentially your T20 career is over.
