I was considered a failed captain: Virat Kohli makes an explosive remark on his removal from top job in ODIs

Virat needs to stop ranting....put his big boys pant on and suck it up. I actually consider him the most aggressive and successful captain in recent times...every captain is different in terms of success. Dhoni won all the ICC trophies but came up cropper during tours of Eng/Aus/SA ...his only overseas series victory in SENA came at NZ. So instead of crying out loud for his ICC trophy failure Virat should acknowledge that and point to his SENA & home victories.

He and previous captains were dumped like trash by BCCI selectors so nothing new but nobody kept whining like he continues to do.

We won none barring 2018 cause of varat. 2021 he ran like a bitch that he is.

He lost in nz twice I believe.

Lost the wtc because of his brainless selections. Not picking inform siraj

He lost in SA twice but did well in 2018 where our bowling hit peak levels.

In England it was one loss and one series draw.

He was a failure in nz and SA. Winner in aus and did good in one of the tests in England as we dominated them at home 4 0 and 3-1.

That's just away? Or home included?

Seems higher than I thought.

4-1 loss to England

2 0 In nz

1 0 in wtc loss

1 0 in nz a few years before lasts eries loss

I checked for data based on a question about Brat as skipper in SENA.

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;filter=advanced;groupby=captains;home_or_away=1;home_or_away=2;host=1;host=2;host=25;host=27;host=29;host=3;host=4;host=5;host=6;host=7;host=8;host=9;orderby=won;team=6;template=results;type=team

Changed it to include all games, home and away.

Primary team India
Home or away home venue or away (home of opposition)
Host country Australia  or Bangladesh or England or India or Ireland or New Zealand or Pakistan or South Africa or Sri Lanka or United Arab Emirates  or West Indies or Zimbabwe

Captain

Mat

Won

Lost

Tied

Draw

NR

W/L

MS Dhoni  262 132 103 3 15 9 1.28
V Kohli  187 118 51 3 11 4 2.31

Across all venues, home and away. Brat is 2 and Dhoniconda is 1.

Is this what you seek :aha:If not have a go at the query using the link.

Agree with your assessment for most part...I was just comparing with recent captains in terms of going for win. Kohli did try to take 20 wkts with 5 bowlers consistently I would give that to him. I wasn't impressed by his bailing out in 20/21 Aussie series but did reasonable in Eng series. At home he was as good as anyone so nothing extraordinary but he did win overseas series in SL and WI (albeit weaker teams) easily. In SA he should have won at least the last series but by that time his tenure had become too toxic and a more stable leader should have won that series 3-0 against SA.

Look he may not be the best captain by any means I would be the first one to acknowledge but he did bring aggressive play for which I commend him. Dhoni & Dravid were conservative who would go for a draw before thinking of win (Overseas in SENA). Examples - Dravid made a 12 runs of 96 balls in second innings of Oval 3rd test in 2007 to allow England to save test match while Dhoni did similar act by setting up a Target of 600 plus runs for NZ in second innings of 3rd test in 2009 leaving little time to get them out . So it is relative to these last two captains when I talk about of Kohli who would most likely won in these situations.

Fair enough. He is one of the greatest captains at home. Away he is behind 4 or 5 people I believe. Still good but not waugh level away from home.

Although you could argue that during Waugh's era teams like nz England us to an extent were all poor and weak. Although we did have a great record at home so that's there. Oz West Indies pak and lanka to a lesser extent were main teams in 90s.

England us and nz were very weak.

How do you rate Brat's captaincy in SENA ?

Virat isn't a captain of a team like NZ etc where someone like Stephen Fleming can say that... I kept my full effort... Etc etc

You are supposed to be winning trophies with India and the fact that he bottled games with his captaincy speaks about him.
