Gambit Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 Nah ... I liked the Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah song much better . That's alright but this one is just so soul wrenching and beautiful. No matter what your religion, this song really touches you.
graphic23 Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Yup. Terrific Song. I'd actually mentioned it in the "Which Hindi or English song are you listening to" thread. Nevertheless, awesome song and Rahman's spirituality comes through in this song - pretty amazing.
ludhianvi Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 you guys watched the last episode of 'Jo jeeta wohi superstar' Abhijit Sawant sang this song and there a couple of other good performances. Its one of my favs shows. The other songs were : Bulla by Rabbi, Piya Haji Ali, and some other good ones. Piya Haji Ali could rival this song vSnHRq4-YzU ZiOPpDgVRQI e_Bim-cUxeg HVw9sY4Kc6g
Dhondy Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Gambo, for some reason, I can't appreciate devotional songs sung by men. Perhaps it boils down to my perception of most men as scumbags, who have their brains in their gonads, and are primarily directed from that part of their anatomy, going through life cheating their wives, ogling at women old enough to be their daughters, and generally spending half their existence jacking off. Are there any devotional songs from this particular genre sung by women? You know the one I love, written by Iqbal, sung by children? Have you heard anything similar?

Have you listened to any MSS songs - she's about the most spiritual singer I've heard.

Abhijeet sawant though continues to be the best contestent I like Harshit's voice. He voice resembles to the past singers and it really comes alive when in songs like Ek Hasina Thi. The Piya Haji Ali song is fantastic though. I first heard it when Irfan sang it on VOI. Hope Harshit's doing well on JJWS. He's a superlative singer. Dhondy, listen to his Piya re in JJWS. Another superb performance there by him. IMO, his best performance. Perhaps because I like those sort of songs. Its in one of my earlier posts
Dhondy Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Thanks, guys. Cricketics, did you get to hear Harshit's "Jane-ja jane-ja jane-jahan" on SVOI when Sreya Goshal came on the show? Haven't heard anything like it. He was mesmerisingly good. Graphic, MSS of course comes from a culture where there are many female singers. I would like to hear some nice songs by women from the Sufi culture or similar themes, like the song in the OP above.

Dhondy Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Just heard him on the video you posted, Ludhianvi. Agree, superb performance. Although, he is just magical when he sings contemporary songs.
Dhondy Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Thanks Cricketics. Isn't he awesome? And Shreya? Ever so sweet!
Cricketics Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Thanks Cricketics. Isn't he awesome? And Shreya? Ever so sweet! u bet man. Harshit is just pure class. U know, Shre Goshal, how she got all this fame and how she was given her first brake?? when Sonu Nigam used to host the show on Zee Tv, SA RE GA MA PA, once this guy, the director of Hum Dil dechuke sanam was the guest, and he was impressed with her and invited her to sing for his film. her life changed after that
