express bowling
One big reason for this feeling is the reluctance to introduce new batters during the 2019 to 2022 period even though the existing batters were failing consistently. And the one they introduced, Shreyas, had a known glaring weakness against bounce and pace. So, the vision to pick a batter who will perform away from home, was missing. One of the frustrating things about that era was there was NO damn accountability. Kohli and Shastri could do as they please and it would be justified. Even now, there is no accountability. But it's a bit better. Link to comment
Soldier
4 hours ago, RajBan said: This was rampant in 80s till mid 90s because of quota and selective bias that prevailed. This has come back again in last 12 years(Dhoni 2012 onwards when he became a stooge of Srini camp) where one gets chance after chance in the name of talent ahead of players who deserved it more based on performance and mental grit. Consequently today, players like Iyer, KL, to an extent Rohit they don't have the mentality to be a Test batsman as they have been given things in a plate. When the going gets tough, they rarely will show the mental fortitude to stick around barring few innings here and there. (Hope Gill does not get lost in that way because he has been really talented). Unfortunately given the mafia mentality those rare success are enough to give them 20 more innings ahead of players who put the hard toil in domestics. No wonder Kisaan has the audacity to completely ignore Ranji as he knows that his IPL contract will give him backdoor entry to the Indian team just like some of his peers . Players like Sarfaraz, Easwaran , Siraj (he finally got his due in last 2-3 years) has to prove themselves more than Bharat, Iyer , Shardul because they don't have a lobby or corporate sponsors backing them. 10000% spot on Link to comment
tweaker
The decline in batting standard was felt due to selection of tried and tested failure and selection based on IPL perfomance. Perfomance of Jaiswal,Sarfaraz ,Jurel feels such an upgrade over the previous selection Suhaan 1 Link to comment

Want to see them play test matches together and in top form. that would be amazing, but very rarely do injured players come back at their prior levels. Link to comment

Not expecting it overnight. Pant may need 6 months or more of playing actual matches at FC level or higher to regain match fitness. Hope he is played just as a batsman and not told to keep. Injury treatment and management have improved a lot in the last few years. Let's see what happens ! Edited February 18 by express bowling Suhaan 1 Link to comment

Let's see what happens ! yes, I think he should transition to pure batter and play at no. 4 once kohli retires, assuming his injuries have not diminished his batting. Sarfaraz is better at No. 5. Jaddu at 6, and Jurel at 7 will be a solid lower MO. When Jaddu retires, I can see someone like Sindhu being capable of batting at 6 or 7. Suhaan 1 Link to comment

He jumps 8.3 at home and drops to 7.8 when competing internationally, make your own conclusions. Most of Indian athletics is which is why we are only behind Russia in doping. The only ones who have shown they can replicate success in domestic events internationally is Neeraj, Avinash and Murali. This thread is bizarre. There is no decline in Indian batting standards, there is a reversion to poor and biased selections. Pant is India's best wk-batsman ever in tests. Jaiswal has started on fire, Gill is on a Rohit trajectory (white ball great who eventually figures out red ball). We just keep playing the likes of KL and Iyer for quota selections. Link to comment
