Team India needs lots of fighting mentality cricketers like Pant instead of prima donna sooperstars

Nitish and Washington are the kind of batters we need.

They should form the nucleus of test side along with Jaiswal and maybe KL. Pant gets a pass for now, but if he continues to play poorly, we have Jurel in the wings.

@express bowling Assuming Ro-Ko retire, how should top 7 of clutch players look like a few years from now (assuming Ro-Ko-Jaddu retired)? I will take a shot at it:

Jaiswal - obvious candidate

Sudharshan/KL - if KL performs steadily, he can stay; otherwise, replace him with Sudharsan

Sundar - not as good a batter as Che, but can play similar role

Gill (?) - BIG questions over this flasher

Pant/? - play Pant as specialist batter, and if it does not work, find someone else

NKR

Jurel (wk)

Life after Rohit, Kohli, Shami, Jadeja

1. Jaiswal

2. Rahul

3. Jurel

4. Gill .. till we find a replacement

5. Nitish

6. Pant

7. Washington

8. Harshit

9. Akashdeep .. till we find a better pacer

10. Bumrah

11. Prasidh .. till we find a better pacer

Jurel has the technique to be the new No.3 in SENA.

Hope Mayank gains fitness for tests.

We can play with 7 batters and 4 specialist bowlers if we remove the dud batters.

Jurel at no. 4, where our best batter traditionally plays (like SRT, peak Kohli, etc) seems rather unorthodox? Moreover, isn't Gill a bit high at 3? Looks like we have the same players in mind at the core though.

Washington in SENA

Hope we dont create a reverse Irfan Pathan.

Washington is a batsman who can bowl.

He might one day become a proper full time spinner or he might not.

In SENA, you need a workhorse spinner.

maybe someone like mulani or suthar, both of whom are workhorses for their own teams. Kuldeep is another option, but not a workhorse.

Yes.

Kuldeep should get an extended run.

Not a tight workhorse but has different ability.

Dynamic spinner - Kuldeep

Workhorse spinner - someone else

So the XI will have 6 bowlers.

3 full time pacers (with Nitish to support them)

1 main spinner (with Sundar to support him)

Unreal balance.

I know a long way to go.

Lets see how Nitish bats in other countries.

Aus pitches lately have quite a bit of spice in them. the only harder pitches are SA, and if NKR fails, that's ok. Eng and NZ pitches tend to get flatter, so he should be okay there. his batting vs spin remains to be seen at home.

Eng pitches have troubled us wayyyy more than Aus pitches in the last 15 years.

Eng swing is a huge problem. The ball swings for a long long time.

NZ will become flat but only after being a green pitch for a day.

And indian pitch being a whole different beast.

So long road ahead.

Eng has moved toward non-swinging pitches since Bazball era, otherwise their own T20 sloggers would struggle. Not too worried about Eng as much. In fact, bigger issue is SC dustbowls.

We can groom Jurel for 3. I have changed the batting order.

He has the technique needed to play genuine pace as well as movement ... and can spend time at the crease.

Gill is probably more suited to No.4.

New order looks much better though Washington is a bit too low at 7. Would swap him and Pant, since Pant can attack and score more with lower order than Washy can. Jurel and Gill are weak-ish links though at the moment.

Washington bowled 71 overs in 2 tests in the NZ test series. Took 16 wickets.

And as a bowler he averages 24.x, 27.x and 23.x in tests, ODIs and T20Is.

Plus he bowls well outside Asia.

He is a proper bowler in 2024.

I have Washington at 7 as he has bowling duties too and I don't want to burden him too much mentally.

Jurel has a high ceiling as a batter provided he gets 6 or 7 tests on the trot and is not dropped after a bad outing.

Jurel looks extremely organized. I wish he had played more in top order for UP. He couldn't because of Aryan Juyal, another keeper-batter who played as opener. Juyal is also fairly good, might even come into consideration for 2nd opener slot one day. Nice organized technique

Yes Jurel is no.3/4 material or bat him not lower than 6

He hasn't done the hard yards in domestics.

Usually players revert to their mean in a long enough time span.

Sure, might not happen with Washi who looks like a proper spinner for now...

But time will tell if he will be one.

Low sample set stats are not reliable.

Washington has played 34 FC matches and averages 26.x with the ball.

Has bowled 13 overs per innings on a average in 58 innings and this has gone up in the last 20 innings or so.

So he is not a rookie to FC bowling.

Sure he can practice bowling more and more in FC and that will help him.

But his height and bounce are the reasons why I want him as a SENA spinner where side spin is not available mostly.
