While that's true, and it applies to previous coaches too, you still need to do whats in your hand.

Not playing Axar and Jurel even in one game, playing Siraj continously, dropping Kuldeep, Gambhir is responsible for all this and more.

Agreed but the problem is that you can't tell which decisions are made by Gambhir and where did Rohit force his hand. E.g., Gambhir has consistently backed Harshit and has shown a preference for all-rounders as you could see his T20 and ODI selections. So logic dictates that he would've pushed for Harshit to be played or Axar to be in the scheme of things.

But we all know that Rohit is hand picked by Jay Shah and can't really be overruled till he's in the team. I would give Gambhir benefit of doubt and that's why want Rohit and Kohli to be dropped so Gambhir can start with a clean slate similar to T20s. It has to be the same way Kohli got his Test captaincy with all the seniors retired and Dhoni dropping out from Tests. He could do whatever he could and it was his team. Similarly Gambhir and a new captain deserve a free hand and it's high time Rohit and Kohli move on. Then you can blame Gambhir.

How are you sure T20 selections are his and not SKY's? Goes both ways. ODI team is still the same.

Then you'll blame the new captain. Coach is there to assist only never to overrule captain. We can never know the specifics. But is still judged by performances. In face of a home series loss, you try everything, but Axar and Jurel were kept on bench and we not only lost but were whitewashed. In any other top country, he too would have been sacked.

If we can credit him for IPL where he wasn't even the coach or even Kanpur Test, why can't he be criticised?

I'm going by the fact that Gambhir has openly backed Harshit and still not able to get him in the team. Harshit has yet to get a game. To me it looks like disconnect between Gambhir and Rohit. Gambhir can only get a player in the squad but it's up to Rohit to play him.

That's why I think similar things would've happened with Jurel & Axar as well. It's more than clear Rohit and Gambhir are not on the same page and don't share the same philosophy. It's similar to how Rohit didn't select Jaiswal and Rinku for WT20 despite them being our best batters in the format. Rohit is set in his ways and unlikely to change, and Gambhir can't really do much.

Harshit is definitely held back due to IPL retentions. Otherwise he won't be in squad too.

Rohit does prefer oldies but its the job of GG to convince and pick the best team together. Else he should quit as there is no point to his selection.

And he'll quit if he's simply there with Rohit preferring experienced non-performers. Rohit has shown he prefers "experience" in his selections and quite averse to making changes or making left field picks.
