Number Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 The way this test has gone so far it will likely pan out like this - Top order getting blown away in first session - A counterpunching partnership in second session with just at the end Cummins breaking it - An absolute dogfight to save the game by the tail, with either a draw or Australia winning. Ultimate_Game Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 The only thing going in our favor is that the target is not realistic so there's no carrot t speak of. We should simply bat out the last day. Let's see if our maharathis show up or it's up to lower order and bowlers to do that too.
Vijy Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 it will be a comfortable loss for us in all likelihood. losing by, say, 160 runs.

Runs are not a factor anymore. The max on this pitch on last day was around 270-280. The moment the target went beyond that, it was only a question of survival. We need to look at it as 90 overs of batting. Simple. It also serves another purpose - tiring out Aussie pacers. Make them bowl the whole day.

Serpico Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 22 minutes ago, Vijy said: it will be a comfortable loss for us in all likelihood. losing by, say, 160 runs. Boland will be key. MCG is his home ground and he has good record in second innings. Cummins should ideally share the ball with Boland since Starc has poor record in MCG
Serpico Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Just now, Vijy said: that won't happen either. Ball isn't doing anything after 30 overs. By the time they take second new ball they'll be too tired. They just need to see through the first session
adi B Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I think it will all fall apart tomorrow if the conditions are bright and sunny , we'll fold under 170 . If the conditions are a bit overcast throughout the day,we might play out a draw. Hopefully Aus bat another 5 overs at least

Starc is a beast in his first couple of overs. If he fails to get a wkt in the first 3-4 overs, it'll be Boland and Cummins for the most part with Starc used as a strike bowler bowling quick, short spells.

I would go with this tbh Rohit Jaiswal KL Pant NKR Kohli Jadeja Washi Rahul to play the Pujara role in gabba and the rest of the hitters to bat around him

They'll declare overnight before the match starts to bowl 90 overs at India. If they don't they lose 3 overs due to innings break and I don't think Cummins is as clueless as Rohit. They're already 330+ ahead and batting is not easy. Plus they can always resort to negative lines if things go pear shaped. Aussies are safe and will look to bowl the whole 90 overs at India. Plus they'll want to bowl full 90 overs so they also have a shot at us with the 2nd new ball (after 80 overs) in case the tail wags. If they bat a few more overs, plus overs deducted due to change in innings (3 overs), they'll not get a chance with the 2nd new ball.

adi B Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 India should waste time from the get go ,our TM and Captain need to be smart tomorrow because it'll be a cloudy day throughout as per the weather reports. So most likely we'll be offered the lights at the EOD.

Nah mate ,they are sh1t scared of Us ,the History tells that ,they'll declare after at least half an hour . Even in that 2014 Series ,they were declaring late and giving silly targets like 370 odd in 80 odd overs for the final day. Australia will play it safe and will ensure safety first policy because their primary target is to reach the WTC finals ,they know they'll reach their with just 1 win against Srl even at the cost of drawing this test or the Sydney test.

They won't win any tests in SL. Kamindu and Prabath can/will destroy them.

Batting on this pitch has become harder. At Gabba in 2021 the pitch was in a much better shape. 2. In 2020-21 Aussies had a tired attack who had bowled lots of overs through the series. In this series that hasn't been the case. At Adelaide they bowled us cheaply and Gabba was rain affected where they didn't bowl much. And even when they bowled they had plenty of rain breaks. Perth Test is the only Test where they bowled a lot but there was a 2week break after that Test. Plus Boland replaced Hazlewwod so they've fresh legs this time round. 3. In 2020-21 we didn't have our "senior" passengers. Kohli thankfully had run away home and Rohit wasn't a useless specialist captain at the time. 4. In 2020-21 we saw once in a lifetime performance by Pant with plenty of luck (missed stumping, balls falling in no man's land etc.) Not likely to happen again as Cummins is a much better captain than Paine was. I'm sorry but this time round luck has favored Aussies. The schedule, toss decisions, drops etc. have all went in their favor this time round, especially since Rohit joined the team bringing his "chalta hai" vibes with him from NZ series.

Yes, if we win through some outlandish reason, this win would actually be more remarkable than Gabba win. Ultimate_Game 1
