Mendis toyed with the entire batting lineup not just Raina..but anyway u are prejudiced against certain players so no use talking to you..with u as the selector i guess if someone fails for 2 games u wud drop him the next game..u wud be the best selector :hatsoff:

I have now seen 5 innings from Rohit over the past year, where we have been under pressure and he has come in and made a stabilising knock at a run a ball. Rohit is a phenomenal talent. He also played well in that match in Melbourne where we were chasing a low score but lost many wickets in the middle overs and Sharma and Dhoni guided us to victory vs the skips. He played very well in Canberra where he set up our big target against the Lankans. Don't forget the CB series final, where we were under pressure after Gambhir and Yuvi fell in quick succession, and he had that matchwinning partnership against. Even in the Asia cup vs Pakistan, when we lost 4 wickets before the powerplays, Sharma and Dhoni played crucial knocks that allowed us to get to 300+. Even today, dont discount the importance of the 32 he made ... After Raina (who also batted well) got out, Sharma and Dhoni pushed us towards a defendable target (which in turn made the difference).

Agree with you completely here, Bharat! Rohit is a very good batsman and even though he is not in the best of touch, he managed to play a crucial knock yesterday which took us to a respectable score. But I'll like him to play bigger knocks or at least show us that he has the concentration to score big. And for that he'll have to go to domestic cricket. Without a first class experience where a person learns to build partnerships, often on substandard pitches in India, is a must. And he needs to prove himself fast in that aspect so that he can be prepared to get a test birth within a year!

Raina has almost an assured spot in ODIs after this. Still Test match is far away....for that matter none of the present crop (only some hope from Badri) are true contenders for test spot. They are moulded for limited over cricket.

Once Veeru comes in I think Rohit and Yuvraj should be made to fight for their spot. Yuvraj is going throught a HORRIBLE patch and Rohit is too not doing any good. Virat has to be part of our middle order. Thanks to today's innings Raina has atleast booked his spot for the next ODI series.
