Sitanshu Kotak seems to be a solid coach

Just watched this interview: https://www.espncricinfo.com/cricket-videos/sai-sudharsan-is-very-tough-mentally-says-india-s-batting-coach-sitanshu-kotak-1506619

Measured, honest, analytical, supportive of his players.

Even during the curator fight at the Oval, he was a calm voice of reason.

We need more coaches like him - not necessarily the most talented cricketer at the highest level, but can treat players well, analyze and coach them up.

I thought Ryan ten doeschate  was the batting coach.

On topic, I prefer coaches who work in background and allow players to take limelight. He seems to be one of them.

ryan is assistant coach.

kotak took over after Abhishek Nayer was removed (who was batting coach) previously.

There is head coach and then 3 coaches for batting bowling and fielding

Still there is an assistant coach?

At this rate the coaching staff would be bigger than the squad

Thats okay, more and more science and study these days goes on. Need ppl to run a professional team.

Same push back came when additional batting and bowling coaches were initially coming into the set-up.

As a coaching staff these days you donot only need to know your players abilities and weaknesses but other teams'abilities and weaknesses.

Game is becoming tactical and strategic.

Coaches are doing video analysis of own players and opp. players, trying to get data on opp. players.

Most professional sports have coaches with various specializations.

I think there are seperate analysts for that

Yes there are analyst but coaches are the ones who needs to see that the players can use the data and info they got.

Ex: Say an analyst can tell that certain batter from our side seem to have issues playing off-spin when its pitched at 6m length, you have the info here but only a coach can work with that player.
