Positives out of the Asia Cup - We have not lost!

Recommended Posts

Well, there has been some great positives out of this tournament to prepare for the real battle which lies in the Champions Trophy. 1) We have found the perfect opening combination. Nasir Jamshed and Salman Butt 2) Afridi's spot is available In this spot an all-rounder can be put in. But Malik will most likely fill up this place. We need to understand is that Afridi is not a genuine baller. We need someone like Ajmal to get some break through against the major teams. 3) Rao Iftikhar needs to be gone Asif, Umar will hopefully be back and take the spots recently filled by Rao and Wahab/Rauf. Therefore this becomes the ideal team for the Champions Trophy. Salman Butt Nasir Jamshed Younis Khan Mohammad Yousuf Misbah-ul-Haq Sarfraz Ajmal (I know there will be "gund" for this spot which might likely to be filled by Shahid Useless Afridi) Umar Gul Mohammad Asif Abdur Rauf

Nasir Jamshed and Salman Butt Haha..dude 2 matches and you have decided ? I think Pak has had 489903 opening combinations who have performed for 2-3 matches 2) Afridi's spot is available In this spot an all-rounder can be put in. But Malik will most likely fill up this place. We need to understand is that Afridi is not a genuine baller. We need someone like Ajmal to get some break through against the major teams. He is genuine *******..not a bowler not a batsman 3) Kamran Akmal needs to be back. (Only in ODIs) I dont know where he is or he has learned to improve through depression or during practice, but we need the guy in the end to rely on. If tomorrow Misbah or Younis had been gone there would have been no one to rely on (dont expect Afridi to make a single run). Sarfaraz is simply too sad with the bat for which he needs exposure in the less important matches. Agree... 4) Rao Iftikhar needs to be gone Asif, Umar will hopefully be back and take the spots recently filled by Rao and Wahab/Rauf. Therefore this becomes the ideal team for the Champions Trophy. Salman Butt Nasir Jamshed Younis Khan Mohammad Yousuf Misbah-ul-Haq Shoaib Malik Kamran Akmal Sohail Tanvir Umar Gul Mohammad Asif Saeed Ajmal (I know there will be "gund" for this spot which might likely to be filled by Shahid Useless Afridi)

akmal is khatmal and should not stay anywhere near the pakistan team... its worth trying with Sarfraz... i agree with other points... and finally' date=' bring back SHOAIB AKHTAR!!!![/quote'] Hey Rahul..Are you planning to play cricket in this weekend...what about them ? Better not call Mudassar again :--D P.S Bringing Akhtar back is not good idea.... Team is not happy with Akthar and doesn't want Akhtar to come back. Team unity is very important...I don't see him coming back :nervous:

malik brother, nasir jamshed has scored just one fifty in his one appearence against a good team. rest all games he has scored against bangladesh and zim babwe. how in the world do u think that is your permanent player who would partner up salman butt
He is not....Just trying him won't do any thing wrong...He needs at least three series to figure out whether he is our next opener or not...Even i don't have faith on Butt either :nervous:

Pound for pound, on placcid pitches such as the ones in the Kitply cup, or the pitches on which Pakistan toured India last year, and in the current Asian Cup; pakistan's batting is very much at par with india. while some of their batsmen might not be something to write home about, against india, players such as salman butt, younis khan and occassionally misbah ul haq match the indian line up of sehwag, gambhir, and yuvraj. Furthermore, as the pitches get flatter, any concievable advantage india might have over pakistan in the bowling department is nullified as ishant and pathan are aptly matched by the likes of gul and tanvir (infact, on such a track, its a blessing in disguise for pakistan that asif is not playing, as he would have come in at the expense of tanvir or rao, who were more penetrating). Our spin departments are matched too, though Afridi on flat tracks trumps Chawla. Ojha in my opinion should have been an automatic selection for the india vs. pakistan game, but sadly the team management saw better otherwise... Hence, in summary, Pakistan is at evens with India, and this is noticable form the fact that in the last 10 games, they have broken even with us, since all those games have come on flat tracks. Now, throw in a more sporting wicket, and the equation changes. If the wicket has uneven bounce, then Asif is a force to reckon with, but if the pitch is true, but has some movement, RP Singh (and maybe Zaheer) and Ishant could decimate Pakistan. I would really like to see some India versus Pakistan in the next couple of months with both teams at full strenght: i.e. Gul and Asif in place of Tanvir and Rao; and Zaheer, Tendulkar, Harbhajan at the expense of Praveen Kumar, Ojha and (unfortunately) Rohit Sharma...

Just one decent match on a flat track and you think you have found solution to your opening problem? I dont believe Afridi is gone until it actually happens.

u missed out on shoaib malik. nasir jamshed looks to be a talented batsman & should do well in the future. i cant understand y wasnt he picked up for earlier matches. and u r right there, afridi needs to be replaced by a regular spinner like mansoor amjad/saeed ajmal in the odi xi. the regular spinner would even bat better than afridi besides bowling better than afridi as well. afridis bowling record against ind & sl shows y he cant be in the team as a specialist bowler even
