DomainK Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 After opening the thread "Who is most likely to break Lara's 400?", I was going through the great man's records. Everything is very impressive barring his record against India. Lara averages 52.88 in test matches. But his average against India is a very low 34.55- the lowest against any team. His average against India in India is even low- 33.00- again the lowest against any team in the opposition's backyard. Its not that he can not play in the subcontinent. He averages an astounding 86.53 against Srilanka- the highest against any team. His average in Srilanka against Srilanka is even bigger- 100.85- again the highest. He averages an okay 53.31 against Pakistan and in Pakistan against Pakistan its 48.15. Against Bangladesh he averages 86.50. So why he never performed against India? In his 17 matches, his highest score is 120 with 2 100s and 6 50s. Not good by his standards.

theguyinallblue Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 actually..under azhar..we were very formidable side at home...we almost always used to win the matches...than draw it ... those days...pitches used to start turning from day 1...and it never was easy to play in india.. on indian pitches.. we have lost that hold now...we don't prepare that sort of pitches any more..they are more placid..and thus teams are now able to draw matches in india..against india... i am not saying that we should not make sporting pitches...but we should prepare pitches that suits our game..and at the same time...doesn't suit the opposition game.. IMO...we should make spinning tracks for international test matches...and sporting pitches for our domestic tournaments..
satishg Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 simple wen it came to India vs Windies Lara knew that Sachin was the better batsman so he simply din try hard enuf..he jus got overawed by watching Sachin bat against his team :D anyway on a serious not that is one thing even i am searching an answer for..y is Lara record so poor against us..i guess every great player has a team that he doesn dominate and for Lara its India..Sachin record against SA is similar to Laras record agains India..Sachin averages 38 against the South Africans and he does not have a single 100 against SA in India..his 3 100s have been in SA..

If they do what you say, Indians will no longer be best players of spin and also, lose matches at home, because their home conditions will be different from what they played their domestic cricket on.

theguyinallblue Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 yeah he didn't enjoy facing the 2 Ws in tests its sad that Ws had to retire early in their career.....they should have avoided that encounter with sachin on 2nd March 2003... i think..Ws still had good 3 years of cricket in them.... particularly..waqar..was very injury prone...and did not look after his body that well...Fitness was a majr problem for Waqar..

No You must have not followed watched him in the early 90s. If you bowl as fast as Waqar did then injuries are inevitable unless you are a freak like B Lee.

He showered Sachin with praises and described how he, Waqar and Shaoib tried everything they knew to get Sachin out and how sachin had an answer for everything.

But his batting never really got going against India. Everytime there was a clash, the media termed it a Sachin-vs-Lara conflict. Sachin mostly came out good, but Lara somehow didnt play very consistently against India. There are the odd knocks here and there, but rare and far too less by Lara's standards. 34 is an acceptable and good average for another batsman, but for Lara, its just not good.

Bumper Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Sorry to bust the bubble. In my books, Lara is a weak attack bully. Barring McWarne & Murali, he has failed against all other good attacks of his times (Akram-Waqar, Kumble-Srinath, Donald-Pollock etc). Even against McWarne, most of Lara's success has been in the flat roads of WI. McGrath owned him Down Under more often than not. The only true world class bowler that Lara has dominated is Murali. I'd rate Punter ahead of Lara, any day.

No one degraded Lara. Most people are just wondering why his average against India is so much below his overall average. 2. No one said that Warne's bowling average is acceptable and Lara's not. 3. Its not affecting Warne or Lara.
