Faisal Iqbal in trouble for playing T20 in Florida

Recommended Posts

Playing in a recent a Twenty20 invitational tournament in Florida along with some ICL cricketers cost Faisal Iqbal a place in Pakistan`s list of probables for Champions Trophy and the trouble is not still over for Javed Miandad`s nephew, according to sources. The Pakistan Cricket Board omitted the Test batsman from the preliminary squad and according to PCB sources, any future course of action would be decided by the general body when it meets on July 24. "Faisal is under great pressure as he just went to play in the invitational tournament after informing the board about the event. He went there since he has no assignments lined up with the national team or otherwise and wanted to make some money," one source said. He said Faisal`s name was initially included in the Champions Trophy preliminary squad but the board subsequently dropped him on the grounds that he was under investigation for playing alongside Indian Cricket League players in the invitational event. Faisal, who has played in 21 Tests and 18 one-day internationals, opted to play in the event under the impression that since he was not a contracted player with the board it would not make a difference. The invitational tournament organised by the Cricket Council of the United States included ICL players Imran Farhat, Hasan Reza and Imran Nazir while former captain and coach Javed Miandad led the Pakistan all-stars XI. "Given the harsh attitude of the board towards ICL players, Faisal is fearing for the worst and for his career," the source added. http://cricket.zeenews.com/fullstory.asp?nid=11596 would BCCI ban their players for playing alongside ICL players? you would think so, but Sachin played for Lashings recently where Dinesh Mongia (ICL player) was also playing, John Embury (a coach for an ICL team) was playing too.

Unnamed sources also report lots of noise and yelling emanating from the Miandad residence in Karachi. One contact of mine could make out something that sounded like "Thith is utter rubbith! Faithal thould not be in throuble, he thould be captain instead of Thoaibh Malik. What ith wrong with the board? Firth they pick that Authie inthead of me as coath when we have thomeone who can coath like him in every galli and mohalla in Karathi, now thith!"

Maybe they selected him by mistake first due to some clerical error and wanted to find a reason to drop him after his stellar international career.
Unlikely because they also mention this "The Pakistan Cricket Board omitted the Test batsman from the preliminary squad and according to PCB sources, any future course of action would be decided by the general body when it meets on July 24." .....and this comes a couple of days after BCCI banned their players from playing in county cricket. Just disgusting politics.
