Pakistan is the home of Taliban and worse. India may be bad ...but atleast it is not a hypocrite terrorist mother ship.India should be the first country to boycott the tournament in light of he recent bomb attacks and the constant ceasefire violations by the Pak army who aree desperate to push in 800 terrorists into India.Unfortunetely ...The BCCI is ruled by vote greedy sicko politicians. Don't compare the situation in the two countries. Pakistan is just reaping what it has sown.....No sympathies for them. India on the other hand is a victim.

Nonsensical decision by NZC. Bottom line is, if Pakistan isnt safe, then India isnt safe too. If India is safe enough, then Pakistan is also safe. Will these guys skip the next version of IPL citing security concerns?
Pakistan and India cannot be compared. Ya, we've suffered from attacks lately, but not on the scale of Pakistan. Also the Taliban has said they will be stepping up attacks in Lahore and Karachi so i think the players have got every reason to be worried.

I speak from a pure security point of view. I am in no way comparing or drawing parallels between the general security situation of the two countries, coz its obvious India's overall situation is better than Pakistan's. But, when a security analyst's is assessing the safety of any place, he doesnt see 'Ok, so whats the general security situation prevailing out there?, but he asks himself 'How vulnerable are the players or how easy is it for someone to attack 'em?'.... You always make your analysis on the worst case scenario, not the best. With that being the case, any foreign cricket players, with all the security protection and cordon that is offered to him, is as vulnerable in India, as he is in Pakistan. If I put this in more generic terms, If Taleban terrorists can penetrate the security cordon for the cricketers in Pakistan, then so can the Pakistani terrorist elements do the same to cricketers playing in India.

This image of Bombs going off in every street of Pakistan every day or people being killed at will that is being painted about Pakistan is absolutely false. Sure, they have massive problems, more than most countries, but its not like the country un-inhabitable or a haven for terrorists.

Pakistan is not likely to get any sympathy from any nation in the world when it comes to terrorism. It's not worth risking anything. Even from a purely security point of view......Pakistan is the epicentre of terroism. It all starts there. There is no security in most places in the world. Australia is as safe as England ...which isn't much. But it is totally different when you have to travel to the motherland of modern terrorism.

any worse than this? KOLKATA: An e-mail threatening to disrupt the second India-Pakistan cricket Test, starting at the Eden Gardens here on November 30, and kill the Pakistani players sent security forces into a tizzy tonight. The two page e-mail sent from yahoo.co.in was received by a private TV channel which forwarded it to the Kolkata Police at around 5 p.m, Commissioner of Police Goutam Mohan Chakraborty said after a high level meeting at the city police headquarters. The meeting was attended by Joint CPs S N Sarkar, Zulfikar Hasan, Sudhir Mishra and Pradip Chatterjee, Deputy Commissioners Vishal Garg and Vineet Goyel. The meeting took stock of the security system in Eden and decided how to beef up the arrangement for the test. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/E-mail_threatens_to_disrupt_2nd_Test_at_Eden/articleshow/2573534.cms

Don't compare threats made by terrorist organisations to threats given by political gundas. Shiv sainiks are abnoxious bastards who desrve to be put behind bars and derecognised as political entities....they deny the people their common everyday rights. They cannot be compared to terrorists who blow up people. Shiv Sainiks can dig up pitches(which is abnoxious but not an act of terrorism)...beat up lovers, tear up valentine cards etc....... People don't stop living because of e-threats. The threats in Pakistan are anything but e-threats.

Not very funny MD. Not to an Indian. You are a good poster ...so I will not be rude.
I don't have anything personal against you either but in this case you aren't making sense. Just answer one question How many suicide bombers were there in PAK BEFORE sept 11? PAK is paying for their disgraceful support of Dubya. That dreaded day of Sept 11 2001 has hurt PAK almost as much as America.

how many of these cricketers have been threatened here? players like G Smith are making silly comments like "one bomb is one too many" yet the same G Smith stayed in IND and continued playing for the Jaipur team when all those bombs were going off...heck they didn't even move the matches to another city!

O.K, I think I need to be a bit more detailed in my reply coz I dont want people to confuse me for comparing the overall security situation of India and Pakistan, coz thats not my intent. Whenever the security situation of any place is assessed, there are essentially two things that are considered. a) The threat - Who is the person/party/entity that is likely to be the threat? They could be anyone from international terrorists, to islamic fundamentalists, to agents of an rival country's intelligence unit to just hitmen hired by other intelligence agencies to even members of political parties wanting to sabotage the peace. Once the threat has been identified, a detailed analysis of their capabilities is performed, which includes questions like; What are potential mode of attacks? Could they plant road-bombs? Could they mount an ambush attack with an explosive laden truck? Could they penetrate hotel security? Will they be able to attack from neighboring buildings with rocket propelled grenades? Will they infiltrate the crowd in the stadium and mount a co-ordinated attack on the players? b) The security arrangements - How robust is the security? Is the vehicle cordon strong enough? Do they have jammers that prevent IED blasts on all vehicles? Is the security situation in the hotel fool-proof enough? Are the crowds that come into the stadium screened well enough? So, when the ICC security team visited Pakistan for a review on the overall situation, the Pakistani delegation would have made a comprehensive presentation of their assessments of the most plausible security threats and what are their arrangements counter it and safe-guard their players. The ICC team would have comprised of its own ex-military personnel, who would have asked a certain set of questions. If they find the answers convincing enough, they would give a go-ahead, or they would raise a red-flag. With this being the standard procedure, there is no way one can say with any amount of certainty that cricketers playing in India, are in any way, less vulnerable than cricketers who play in Pakistan. Both our security and law-enforcement agencies have similar amounts of man power and technical expertise, as far VIP security is concerned. Both the respective threat parties ( say for eg Taliban in Pakistani and Islamic terrorists in Ind ) have similar threat capabilities. Both are bound to use almost similar modes of attack, like either a road-side ambush, or an IED explosion or a suicide attack, to get at the cricketers. Its not like the Taleben is going to use helicoptor gunships to attack the cricketers in Pakistan and the Islamic terrorists have only water-guns to have a go at the cricketers in India. With such being the case, its almost impossible to draw a line of distinction between the threat levels of cricketers playing in India and Pakistan ( mind you, we arent talking bout the general safety of the ordinary citizen, but specific probabilities of what are the chances of someone or some group attacking cricketers in the two countries). I suppose the one thing that could have immensely harmed Pakistan is the dubious reputation of its security agencies. Their security apparatus is supposedly filled with Taleban sympathizers, what if one them managed to penetrate the initial screening process, formed a part of the security team that offers security of the players and in the end joined hands with the terrorists to do an inside job and compromise security?. The variables are just too many for Pakistan, which would make it that much harder for anyone to buy their case. There are lots of unanswered questions here.

Who created Taliban? ISI is the biggest terrorist supporting organisation in our region. Anyways...this is the wrong forum....
...and you forgot about the CIA providing them with every thing that they wanted. It was a bit like the MQM in PAK which first started off as the "saviors" but later ended up hurting their own country. In hindsight the Benzair government should have taken a tougher stance against them.

No one is denying CIA role....they are as much to blame. Ayways...like I said, this is the wrong forum.
fair enough but just to let you know that before 9/11 Pakistan almost NEVER had these suicide bombers.
