Mera bhaarat mahaan Cr@p like this makes me thank my lucky stars that i left that hellhole of casteist, religion-obsessed fallen civilization of India. 'We are a great civilization' my *****...we are a nation of barbarians, with barbarian mentality, living off the name of our civilized ancestors. We are as civilized today (as a nation) as a sub-saharan cesspool.

The Indians all know the problem exists, and in this particular case, it is more likely to be linked with those Dalits ALSO being poor , and the rich being evacuated first, etc. etc.. I wrote it as a natural reaction to your over the top, India bashing OP. Because by that measure, US is also 'color driven' cesspool, Sub Saharan crap whatever....

^ Agree ! CC , you need to stop generalizing people , for example , just in this message board , you will find no takers for this kind of behavior towards Dalits . So then , question begs , how can you pigeon hole an entire community as barbaric ?

Because of the prevalence of it in our society ! If a society has hundreds of millions of people who live under quasi-slavery, then it is a barbaric society ! Otherwise, what is barbarism? Even in the height of slavery days, not each and every arab or european owned slaves, but it was very prevalent in their society overall and thus they rightly get termed as a heinous, barbaric society for the period in concern. Upholding the same standards unfortunately sees India also consigned to the barbarian heap.

That is indeed the kind of reaction one expects from your kind.
And what exactly is 'my kind', sir ? What exactly do you dispute in my comment ? Yes, my words were carefully picked to *****le the conciousness of the desis here...but is it far from the truth ? Does travelling around India or indeed, living in it remind you of any semblance of civilization? I shall remind you, the word civilization begins with the word 'civil'- what exactly is civil in our society ? Rampant corruption, grotesquely bloated population, rampant poverty, casteism, discrimination, religion-based politics, people going around as if nothing happened 2 days after bomb blasts, train derailment, 100s dying is just a number to our society...i ask you again, if we are to go by now and here , what exactly is 'civilized' about our nation ?? Maybe because i've travelled a lot and spent more time growing up outside India than inside it, but unlike the vast majority here, i do not have my views of India tinted by hollow national pride.

Boolsheet...the ways dalits are treated in India TODAY is far worse than how blacks are treated in the US today - more like India today is how USA was 60 years ago. And for all the 'knowledge' of indians about the problem existing, its surprising that very little has changed socially through all these millenias....the overwhelming majority is STILL caste obsessed in terms of marriage, relations, etc. and the overwhelming majority still beat their sons and daughters silly for having intimate relations with a lower caste, with some even putting fatwas on their own children !

You can spew all your vocab and thank those dimlit astronomically distant stars of yours all you want. For they have solved the problem, for both, you & us. and you should not concern yourself so much. India is still working on fixing these issues. It will take some time & humongous efforts. But we will get there.

But we will get there.
I certainly hope so. But it'd involve removal of the fundamental powerbase of the hinduvtas, which are casteist, religiously polarizing and sensationalist brigade among host of other improvements.

The article is to focus on the current issue...neither you or sandy or anyone here has anything about rural indian life that'd increase my knowledge or familiarity of their lifestyles. But ofcourse, hinduvtas find these articles grating to their false pretense of 'super goodness of hinduism' tripping outs.

I disagree on your fundamental assumption here Hindutva DOES NOT mean castism. Castism is created by people - it exists within every religion. People need to be educated to be more tolerant towards each other's belief. Otherwise there's no difference between CC1981 and a radical islamist like Zakir Naik.

Agree with you 100%, caste system is still evident and it is a shame.

Yeah. Really what era we live in??? Its about time we start treating Dalits respectfully. Castism is in our blood. It will take generations to take that out. More and more people oppose it. Eventually it will diminish. Until then few will sufer. :((

AMRITSAR: In a deplorable instance of cruelty, a young Dalit girl, 12, working as a domestic maid, was not only not allowed to return home by her employers, but also handed over to the police for allegedly stealing the family’s gold ornaments. On their part, cops did not only file a theft case against the minor girl, Payal, but they took her to Islamabad police station, instead of lodging her in a juvenile home, for interrogation. No woman cop accompanied the girl to police station. They did not stop at this. Failing to get a confession from her, they took her to Kot Khalsa police chowki. Fortunately for Payal, she got a sympathetic hearing at the Kot Khalsa police chowki. They did not only treat her well, but also handed her over to her parents. The deplorable episode unfolded over the weekend. On Saturday, her second day on the job, Resham Singh and family accused Payal of stealing 55 tola gold ornaments and did not let her go home. When the victim’s elder sister came to enquire, they told her Payal would take a while reaching home. “They tortured her and called the police on Sunday morning,” said Payal’s father Sukhdev Singh. “Her hands and feet were swollen because of the torture inflicted on her. The medical report mentions as much.” SP, Headquarters, Surinder Singh has marked an inquiry to DSP Balkar Singh after a delegation of the Balmiki Society met him on Wednesday. Angry over the incident, various organizations — Balmiki Youth Sena, Baba Jeevan Singh Trust and Aadi Dharam Samaj among others — have issued an ultimatum to police. Vijay Kumar, president Balmiki Youth Sena, told TOI that they have demanded that the theft case against the minor be withdrawn and the police officer who inflicted injuries on her be transferred by Saturday. They have threatened to launch an agitation if their demands are not met. SSP Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh said the girl was interrogated after her employer filed a theft complaint against the girl. But he denied any torture.
