Dalmiya demands Ganguly's recall Cricinfo staff November 27, 2006 Demonstrators in Kolkata vent their spleen against Greg Chappell and push for Sourav Ganguly's recall ? AFP Jagmohan Dalmiya, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president, became the latest public figure to demand changes in the Indian cricket team by calling for the immediate reinstatement of Sourav Ganguly in the team, saying his recent performance showed that he was fit and in top form. Politicians had jumped in the fray recently with one federal minister demanding on Monday that Chappell face a privilege motion in Parliament after his response to some MPs' criticism of the team's performance. "After the way Ganguly played on the pacer-friendly track in Mohali [in the Ranji Trophy opener against Punjab], he surely deserves a place in the Indian team," Dalmiya said here after a CAB working committee meeting. Briefing newspersons about the deliberations, Dalmiya said the association would request the BCCI to impress upon the national selection committee the need to consider recalling Ganguly in the national team.A resolution to that effect was passed in the meeting. Ganguly recently showed signs of returning to form with a century in the Duleep Trophy before scoring 43 on a fast and bouncy Mohali wicket. "At Mohali, more than the number of runs, the way he got them shows he is now as fit as he was in the past. Also he is in full form," Dalmiya said. Ganguly has been out of the Indian team since turning out in the Karachi Test against Pakistan earlier this year. He played his last ODI in 2005 in Sri Lanka.

Same junk was babbled after the SL and Karachi test. He looked so good more than the number of runs. Well, Chutmiya there are cricketers in domestic cricket who look good and score runs. What are you going to tell them?

Re: Dalmiya demands Ganguly's recall - He's fit and in form I'm not sure if these games are shown on Indian TV. Even then do you reckon he will sit through a game? Of course not. Lest he is not pissed with Ganguly for the comments Ganguly made few months ago. The problem is when these presidents of local boards start putting pressure on the selection committee, captain, coach and players. What's stopping from VVS's board from doing the same? Each domestic board can follow similar trend too.

Exactly Ravi. I would not have been half as pissed if someone from the South Zone had said the same thing. Why cant Dalmiya make similar statements in support of Badrinath or Venugopal Rao? Why cant someone from the west echo similar sentiments for Gagandeep Singh? Absolutely pathetic stuff.

Re: Dalmiya demands Ganguly's recall - He's fit and in form Ganguly is Garbage, he wont be able to handle short pitch deliveries. Maybe if the tour would be in Bangladesh or Zimbabwe i would take him in. Other than that he should keep playing domestic cricket till he retires

Re: Dalmiya demands Ganguly's recall - He's fit and in form Ganguly will, in all probability, be recalled it seems. And if he is, no one would want to be him. So much pressure. And against what is probably one of the best and definitely the fastest pace attack in the world. If he makes runs here, he will be in the team for atleast another year. And if he doesn't, Chappell can give us one of his us "I told you so" looks.

Re: Dalmiya demands Ganguly's recall - He's fit and in form But what I find funny is the constant bigging up of his 39 and 40 knocks in Delhi against SL. It's as if he scored a double and then a triple on an absolute minefield of a track according to some rabid Ganguly fans :lmao: :lmao:
