kudos for some of the posts here... especially iron maiden's fear of the dark (though i prefer hallowed be thy name), and led zepplin. for my picks, and these are songs i could listen to from now till the end of time (though its arguable if this is indeed heavy metal and not simply punk rock): Marilyn Manson's Coma White: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlfdoObRyoc]YouTube - Marilyn Manson - Coma White[/ame] Marilyn Manson's Dope Show: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkw4_lXx4bQ]YouTube - Marilyn Manson - The Dope Show[/ame] and last but not the least, Marilyn Manson's Tourniquet: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEYY-Wl_VMk]YouTube - Marilyn Manson - Tourniquet[/ame] and an ode to the hall of fame: Motorhead's Ace of Spade: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XESEt5A12Zo]YouTube - The Ace of Spades (Music Video)[/ame]

i thought this was a heavy metal discussion.i dont even consider metallica as heavy metal.
yes metallica is indeed heavy metal. heavy metal identifies a genre characterized by music that is produced by a percussionist, a bassist and a guitarist. and thus, metallica is very much eligible. two of the three marilyn manson songs i posted are by this distinction not rigidly within the paradigm of heavy metal.
