Pujara's wealth of runs in the last couple dozen days is superb. However, the issue is that he has not had a chance to show himself properly against top quality attacks. The solution comes in an A team tour to a strong Test nation or in the zonal competition (even though they are far too short for my liking). Take this Punjab attack: Gagandeep Singh is a quality FC performer but then you get to Gony who has an poor record and just eight games, a debutant and an off spinner in his fifth game with a terrible record.

Agreed - Definately doing a fine job, there is nothing more he can do against these attacks than score tons of runs.

Shocking splurge of runs from this youngster. More pertinently, he scored 180 runs at more than a run-a-ball, when the innings RR so far has been 3.34. Minus his score, his team's figures read 90 overs for 220-odd runs. So, one can imagine he must have dominated the bowling while the other batsman scratched around. Really, it will be terribly unjust if he we just keep ignoring these runs of Titanic proportions that he is making. Get him in the Test XV!

There is a shocking plurge of runs from so many contenders for test side. No idea who to pick. We need an A tour so top run scorer wins and gets the spot in test side. Badrinath slams ton, Karthick slams double ton,pujara with massive ton, yuvraj with 2 tons. Not to mention sharma, raina and others. We have so much strengh and talent.

O come on thats harsh! Loss was against oz in oz were we were superb really. And loss was against SL who were brilliant. Our form has been superb actually. Win in england, should have won in oz but for umpires and then battered the aussies here. Kohli is another indeed. When is the next A tour? We need one soon

I didnt say we played poorly. All I said was that our outstanding bench-strength and all the positive vibes notwithstanding, we still have only one test series win in the last one year. Agreed, we should atleast drew the last edition of the BG series down under, but that doesnt eliminate the fact that we lost against Lanka and could only manage a draw against the Saffies at home. But, the next 4-5 months can be the single most productive period of our history. We just beat Australia, a matched by only one team in the last decade, England is in our shores and have already shown vulnerabilities. We're going to Pakistan at a time when their team is much depleted and most importantly, a series against NZ, in NZ is coming up. We HAVE to win that. My expectation would be that, of these 4 series ( Australia incl), we have to win atleast 3 and not lose any. We've already won one.

The problem is our terrific bench strength remains just that.....bench strength, and it stays on the bench, while the same tired old players stay on the field. No test team ever won because it has strong bench strength, it needs to have those players out in the field :-)

The thing is too much emphasis on Ranji scores is ridiculous. Just see today's scores...you have batters getting huge 100s everywhere. Kukreja 200, KKD 200, JN Shah 178, Pujara 180...some others getting 170, 250 etc.... I think this is what the wise Sdagoppan Ramesh meant when he said " even Mahatma Gandhi can get 100s in Indian FC cricket", when asked about Devang gandhi's scores :-)
