Although 80 plus people have died, including ATS head, what caught my attention was gunning down of Vijay Salaskar. He is one of the top encounter specialist for Bombay Police. He has been doing it since late 80s and had a meteoric rise thanks to gunning down absolute top rung - Amar Naik, Sada Pawle, Vijay Tandel etc etc. In recent months many of the top encounter specialists had been moved in the garb they were corrupt but Salaskar was untouched because his record was absolutely clean. The top dogs that were moved from Crime squad were said to be in the pockets of Chotta Sakeel and Dawood. It was only Salaskar who was apparently far removed from their grip...so maybe there is something here that could help the investigators. Plus of course a man who had been doing this for 20 years gunned down at such a close angle. xx Also, you probably heard that Karkare had got death threats just a few days ago? I am almost convinced that he was close to knowing something really big, and was silenced. Where is Raj Thackeray now? Where is the Shiv "Sena"? Aren't they the ones supposedly "protecting" "Aamchi Mumbai?" I am sure they are all among the RAFs or NSGs trying to flush the terrorists out. And Lurker, with all due respect, I think you give too much credit to the investigators. There will be no real investigation. A few weeks from now, it will be life as usual. People will forget, we'll get caught up in our daily lives. Raj Thackeray and Laloo Yadav will continue to bark, and the truth will never be known. Finally, on a related note, every time I realize that Dawood Ibrahim is out there, alive, well and enjoying life after taking so many lives, my blood boils. But, I am just another helpless fool ... It is high time any of this fanaticism whether it comes from Islam or any other religion is banned and punishable by law in India- the state should completely separate itself from religion and religion has to be restricted to homes; if you want to be pious Muslim do your 5 times namaaz at home & read your Quran but better shut up about religion, jehad, discrimination, sympathizing with the Palestinians, Iraqis etc otherwise get punished by law. Same thing should hold for other religions inclusing stupid fanatic articles in media. I also hope that this only unites the world against Islamic fanaticism which is beyond the realms of any talk of religious freedom now. If I was a Muslim I would rather renounce such a heinious interpretation of this religion than keep practising and fighting it, the same way I feel when Hindu fanatics go berserk trying to kill Christians etc. Finally lets recognize that while fanaticism from any other sphere is bad, the priority for the world currently is clearly Islamic fanaticism and all world efforts should clearly put all efforts against this threat first before anything else. Police are getting mobiliized. 9:45 pm - Karkare gets a call from the Home Minister or the mysterious political bigwig who is involved in the Malegaon terror bombings. Karkare is given orders to go take care of the situation in Metro/Taj. 10:30 pm - Karkare is killed. Sounds like a freakin set-up to me ... I really need to get some sleep. Dont make the danger of doing that. Islamic fundamentalism has pushed Indian underworld into a very dangerous area. From gold smuggling the dons now do rdx smuggling. The reason why Mumbai cops do fake encounters is because in a real encounter they dont stand a chance against high powered automatic weapons, which is obviously received via terrorists. Terrorists need underworld for landing explosives, recruiting unknown faces, logistics of moving people, false passport...even money via drug trade.
