Very informative post Lurker. Not many might know this but Dawood had offered to surrender right after the Mumbai Blasts in 1993 to plead innocence. It was a very conditional surrender though where he wanted all previous cases on him to be dropped and that he be tried only for his 'alleged' role in the '93 blasts.

I have somehow trouble believing that Indians will be ready for a suicide bombing type mission. That kind of motivation requires motivation of the highest order' date=' which basically boils down to brainwashing.[/quote'] I think you are being overly enthusiastic in complimenting(in a back handed manner) the motivation of terrorists. Most quality Armed Forces are raised with giving up their life for the glory of the nation. There wont be a dearth of Armed Forces motivation trust me, political motivation may be a completely different thing.
Lurker, wasn't Chotta Rajan a friend of Dawood's until '93 ? They became rivals after the Mumbai blasts. Was that because of religion or was there something else between them ? I think E is definitely feasible, i had mentioned it before as a solution. Arm Rajan, unite him with the intelligence agencies and give him an incentive to kill Dawood. Let Rajan do the dirty work. But then again, it's been said that Dawood has some strong connections in Indian politics...
Yes Rajan and Dawood were buddies, extreme close one during the era when Mumbai underworld was not split down the middle. In fact Rajan did the most dangerous, and often most important, work for Dawood including gunning down Samad Khan, Karim Lala nephew, that made Dawood the Don of Mumbai. The relationship had started to sour when ISI entered the picture and started to deal more with Dawood and 3rd in command Chotta Shakeel(Rajan was no 2). Shakeel is a hardcore Muslim fanatic and is also credited with changing D company from a Secular group to a Muslim one. Dawood was able to keep Shakeel in check till Babri Masjid went down. After that it was point of no return.
good post. What will happen though when Chotta Rajan is made all powerful, will he be the next Dawood? Or will India knock him off after he's been used? And no suicidal bombing is disgusting. We should never do that.
I wouldnt push Indian Agencies to make Chotta Rajan, or anyone else, as the Don. What I would push for is to help Rajan in getting his nemesis. Rajan desperately wants to get after Dawood, Chotta Shakeel and Tiger Memon. He has business as well as personal reasons. He also has contacts with Dawoods arch nemesis inside Pakistan. Do bear in mind that Dawood is now Pakistans most powerful Don and that has not gone down greatly with local goons who see him as an outsider. Many of these have business interests with Rajan. This is where Indian Intelligence agencies can get foot soldiers on the grounds without sending its men.
Point F - Absolutely Unacceptable. Point E - If you what you say is correct and CR's men have actually infiltrated that kamina's lair, then this is the most feasible solution. As for the Rajan-Dawood split..it is said that CR left as he couldn't be in the same gang as a bunch of anti-nationals. Even if CR does manage to take Dawood's place as the head honcho...he will by far be the lesser of the two evils (i.e. it should be much easier to take him out of the equation if and when needed).
Chotta Rajan's men have managed to get closer to Dawood than Indian agencies ever will. Reasons are simple. CR knows the way Dawood thinks and works, he knows Dawoods helpers, politicians. Remember the time Dawood's daughter was getting married to Miandad's son? After initial hungama Dawood totally went underground. This was partly explained that agencies, and interpol, were after him. But the bigger piece of the puzzle was CR's ace sharpshooter Vicky Malhotra was seen in Dubai, and soon enough Malhotra was seen with an IB chief. This had alerted Dawood that IB-CR were working together to get him.

Yes. Dawood had offered to surrender. He had called Ram Jethmalani and spoke specifically about this. Jethmalani in turn called Sharad Pawar who immediately dismissed the idea. Dawood had some conditions, not to be killed in a fake encounter and not to be tried for previous murder case(on which he jumped bail and absconded to Dubai), but none so great that it should not have been given a serious though. Both Pawar and Jethmalani conceded that yes Dawood did offer to surrender. xx

Listen to this guy - Syed Hussain Zaidi. He is the best crime invesgtivative reporter from India and pound for pound has the best inside sources in the underworld.

vishal:If Indian agencies have proper evidence against Dawood?? What next steps India should take to put Dawood behind bars?? S Hussain Zaidi: I think Indian government should not think of extradition of Dawood they should plan to get him killed in Pakistan the way Israel deals with its enemies in other countries

Thanks for the link ...
Refresh vince:Is not it time for us to reform our political & review our policies. How to reform those ? S Hussain Zaidi: our approach towards pakistan and terrorism should be very direct and blunt. if its India's 9/11 then India should fight it like one --- without hesitation us attacked afghanistan..its time for India to invake POK, forget international furore, and clearly warn that if next attack happens they will reach Islamabad

To be honest DC I am not too disappointed with that statement. Maybe I am just optimistic. Or maybe I have learnt from history wherein Indian thinktank keep yapping on how military use IS an option but then shove a thumb down you know where. I would much rather take it that its NOT an option and then do what needs to be done. I have a sense that something is gonna happen and its just around the corner. Give it a week or two.

even I dont think an all out war was an option neither did I think we can just go in & bomb places in Pak .. Its not practical but at the same time I expected this govt to keep their mouths shut and say "We are looking at options and military use will be the last " that way the public is reassured and so are the Pak/ISI that India is not going to let it go. I know they made this statement b4 condi arrives to show that " see we are not threatening them n hence at least for the time being they cant tell u that we will move our forces from the other border " but by saying this IMO they lose respect of people at the same time they have already agreed to what US and Pak wanted, that too without meeting condi ..

On Dawn today... Kisko ullu bana rahein hain? Nothing new in India’s list of wanted persons: Pakistan seeks credible evidence By Syed Irfan Raza ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: Pakistan urged India on Tuesday to provide credible information about people named in a list, provided to Islamabad, of suspects allegedly involved in the Mumbai terrorist attacks. A senior interior ministry official said the list was the same which New Delhi had been providing for several years and contained names of Pakistanis and Indian nationals. He said Pakistan had repeatedly told India that some of these people were not in Pakistan and that solid evidence was needed for taking action against those who were in the country. The list included the name of an Indian national and an alleged gangster Dawood Ibrahim, founder of militant organisation Jaish-i-Mohammad Maulana Masood Azhar, founder of another banned militant outfit Lashkar-i-Tayba Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, some Sikh Indian nationals who were allegedly involved in an abortive secessionist movement and said to be hiding in Pakistan. About Dawood Ibrahim, the government has already told the Indian government that he is reported to be living in Dubai and has never visited Pakistan. About other Pakistani nationals whose names were on the list, Pakistan had told the Indian government that although they were in Pakistan, but action could only be taken against them only if credible evidence was provided. The sources said the same list had been provided a few days ago by Indian Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta to his Pakistani counterpart Syed Kamal Shah during talks held under the composite dialogue. The Indian government had also demanded action against Lashkar-i-Tayba and Pakistani government had told India that the organisation had already been banned and was under strict surveillance. The Indian government, the sources said, should provide some concrete evidence against the organisation for action to be taken against it.

Probably Dawood does not know the extent of Terrorist attack..... Otherwise why would he jeopardise his cricket Betting business... now that India - Pak series is certain to be called off where the big money is

Even as India seeks Dawood Ibrahim's extradition yet again, the don is ensconced safely in his plush bungalow in Karachi. Security agency sources told TOI on Wednesday that it's business as usual for the underworld kingpin. A few days ago, a couple of his relatives, including Salim Ansari, flew to Pakistan (using their valid Indian passports) to meet him. Sources said the don was so confident that he would not be touched by the Pakistani establishment that he had made no changes in his daily routine. He continues to phone his contacts in Mumbai. Recently, a contact who fronts for him in the real estate business reportedly sent Rs 120 crore via hawala, sources in the government stated. The hawala channel between Mumbai and Karachi remains busy. Indian security agencies are keeping close tabs on Dawood's movements, as are their counterparts in the US intelligence establishment. It's on the basis of detailed inputs from them that India maintains that Dawood Ibrahim is in Pakistan. But central agencies question why the Maharashtra government has not taken any action against the D-company here. "What's the point of asking Islamabad to hand over Dawood when we're not doing anything to destroy his empire in Mumbai and other places in India?" a senior official asked. Mohammed Ali, who holds sway in the docks and is a key member of the Dawood Ibrahim network, continues to operate with impunity. Even after the November 26 terror attacks, his smuggling racket remains unchecked. Despite strong indications that it provided logistical assistance to the attackers, the police insist there was no local support. At the same time, they do not rule out Dawood Ibrahim's involvement. Meanwhile, security agencies are hoping the US will move on Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders, including Abu Hamza and Hafeez Syed. An email sent to a TV channel was traced to an LeT hideout near Muridke in Pakistan's Punjab province. The phone intercepts of the LeT terrorists who executed the Mumbai massacre also reveal their links to Pakistan and Bangladesh.
