Before blaming the politicians take a look at this forum and how viciously it cracks down on people who criticize Islam. You have been live witness to the battles that me , DR & sandy fought on those lines all alone. Its that very reason which translates into real life as well. In short you will find very few people who can take the bull by the horn and we as Hindus are not known to produce such specimens any more. The concept of self preservation and unity are completely lost on us. We try to address the situation like how someone deals with a rogue crocodile by feeding it everyday and keeping it happy instead of dealing with it. I wrote all about it in my exit thread.
BB many guys who used to froth on mere mention of Israel suddenly seem to be seeing the reaon in israel's involvement so I guess we have moved little forward but at this rate by the time everyone wakes up there will be nothing left to defend.... I was so surprised when Suhel Seth although still calls Modi guilty but at least accepts he is the man if INdia needs to get anything done.. http://covert.co.in/suhel.htm

Chandan, Yes, people are angry. But for how long? and what are the ppl gonna do? Vote for Narendra Modi instead of Congress. Fine, what will that get them? People have to kick all these old politicians including N.Modi out, and replace them with yengsters. Get out Ganguly, bring in Gambhir - sort of
Is voting the only way out? Have you seen the people on road? What if no one turns up to vote? This attack was not what showed there could be slight lapse in security and the bomb was planted! It was the entire failure of our system, the system which was exposed to be rotten to the core, the system which was exposed to be as susceptible to collapse as when 10 men invaded the city and wrecked havoc at will as if it was just a child's play. IMO, people have realised where the fault lies and instead of crying 'Pakistan' at every given opportunity, they are angry at the people who are responsible for this failure like the leaders, security, intelligence. I don't think anyone thinks that there is even one capable leader in the country, no matter how many parties we may have!

If you think that an action against pakistan is the thing to be worthwhile then it'll not come because public is least interested in knowing where the terrorists came from! It is how they exposed our entire system is what is irking eveyone! And you'll definitely see the changes in our security policies. Things have already started changing in fact.

Yeah, yeah, they are all angry (we are too). What are the angry people gonna do now? Are they gonna personally do intelligence work and hunt down terrorists. They still need to rely on the police, the IAS officers and ministers to do their work, right? The only main power people have is VOTING RIGHTS. (they can do some other things too, but main power is "Right to Vote") They got to vote the bastards out of their comfy minister jobs and plush Govt jobs.

BB, I am quite hopeful now. UPA have their backs to the wall and they have no choice but to do something. In fact, in the CWC meeting over the weekend, lots of them were demanding a 'decisive'(read military) response to the attacks. For self-preservation,UPA have to do something positively significant. And like DR pointed out, the fact that the elite/corporates have been impacted this time means that every criticism levelled at the govt by these guys will carry a lot more weight and we will see some paradigm shifts.

Hopefully in all the coming assembly elections congress loses.. if they manage to win few then I am sure these mofos will go back to their usual inaction self............. Fact is these guys won;t give a damn if nobody questioned even if millions died..... they srping into action only when their chair is in danger.. BJP would have been the same had it not been for the sangh pressure.. RSS has no love for power they are very very prinicipled ideological body people might disagree with that but their drive comes from ideology not from some lust of chair....Hence BJP has no choice but to act ........

Forget whether one can do things where these terroists are spawned or not..Point is you do not need enodrsement of Colin Powell or Condi Rice for changing things in your own country be it POTA or MCOCA or anythign else.. here we have morons who don;t have balls to do even that.......... YEt another toothless body will be created on lines of CBI and they will be busy vetting opposition MPS for defection or helping out thugs like laloo or bailing out thugs like mulayam may be even victmizing him depends on the season........ Bottomline is as Modi says we have moved from 303 rifle to Ak47 but legislative arm remaisn as dilapidates as it was 50 years back..

Breaking News : India declares its plan of Action No military action against Pakistan: India

NEW DELHI: India said on Tuesday it was not considering military action in response to terrorist attacks in Mumbai that killed at least 183 people. "Nobody is talking of military action," foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters when asked about options on what action could be taken. Investigators have said the attacks were carried out by terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Taiba, a group based in Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan has proposed a joint investigating mechanism to probe Mumbai terror attacks, foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said. Current situation does not allow blame-game or finger-pointing. Pakistan wants to continue constructive bilateral engagement, he added. India has said it was awaiting Pakistan's response to a demarche issued in the wake of the Mumbai terror strikes, asking Islamabad to handover fugitives who have taken shelter in the neighbouring country. "We will await the response from Pakistan" to the demarche (protest note), external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters here. Mukherjee has stated that "some elements" based in Pakistan were suspected to be behind the Mumbai attacks. Pakistan's High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik was summoned by top officials in the Ministry of External Affairs and handed down the demarche seeking strong action against those responsible for the Mumbai carnage. "Now, we have in our demarche asked for the arrests and handing over of those persons who are settled in Pakistan and who are fugitives under the Indian law," Mukherjee said on the sidelines of a function to inaugurate the India-Arab Forum. India had already handed over to Pakistan a list of 20 terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Mohammad and Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar besides underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who are based in that country and are suspected to be behind terror attacks in India. "...there are lists (containing the names) of about 20 persons. (These) lists are sometimes altered and this exercise is going on and we have reviewed it in our demarche," Mukherjee said. "What will be done, time will show and you will come to know," he said in response to a query on US president-elect Barack Obama's remarks that his country will help India in "protecting" itself from such terror attacks. "We appreciate the responses (from major global powers) which we have received from all over the world, including Obama," Mukherjee said.

I think it's important to be patient. I know a lot of us want to see action but I really think this is the right step forward. Like it or not, the perception around the world is that the is the latest in an ongoing dispute between India/Pak but lately intelligence agencies around the world are coming to the idea that Pak is legitimately sponsoring terror groups like the LeT. We just have to keep the pressure on. By demanding the list of suspect and confirmed terrorists it gives INDIA the moral ground. Pakistan will ONLY look like a rebel state run by the military and terrorist interests if it refuses. If you look at the US policy Obama has hinted at, it is very similar. Remember most nations around the world condemned the attack but also cautioned India to be diligent at these times. Right now Pakistan is under pressure to produce these terrorists at the risk of looking like a terror suporting state unless it does. I'm sure India has contingency plans now on what to do if Pakistan refuse or cooperate but it puts us in the driver's seat.

Why do you think Condy Rice was in India just to make sure India says it openly there wud be no open arms conflict. Americans don;t care about anythign else.. they want pakistani soldiers on western border that's the bottomline.. Yes it was stupid to say it openly but we all knew military option was a non-starter..

Ofcourse, and it's also in India's best interests to keep Pakistani grunts on the western front because it is Pakistan that should bear the military and economic costs of cleaning up the terrorist groups like the Mujahideen and not India. At this point in time it's the US that has the most control over Pakistan, but like a lot of US policy it's whatever it takes till the next election. These people aren't thinking about the long term picture and I can seen groups like the Let, and other Kashmiri terrorist groups targetting the US increasingly because of this influence. India's best solution long term lies in the de-nuclearisation of Pak. Right now we need to put pressure on the US for this aim because if they don't agree then we can always push our troops towards the line of control near the boundary and force the issue that way. In the long term Pakistan with nuclear disarmament wouldn't have the guts to military sponsor terrorism like it does now.

I don't see why India should say anything about what it would or would not do. Keep the Papis guessing. US govt is scum basically. They are fighting two open wars (one of them with no justification) and they tell us to keep calm. How many of our babus are on US pay roll? I don't think an all out war is in India's interest but no need to tell everyone that.

That is incorrect. I just saw NDTV's interview with Pranab Mukherjee and when asked this question, he said - "No comments, but every country has a sovereign right to defend itself. " Channels captioned this interview - No ruling out attack against Pak.

Gambo if anything was going to happen the first thing in order of business is to recall the ambassador and other embassy staff
There obviously will not be a war but an attack on PoK camps(covert or otherwise) is a strong possibility.
