if u want a side sometimes use laptop, why dont u get the mini 9 or the eee pc... fits in your pocket :hysterical:
but whats the diiference , processor is same competiton, rest of the specs are identical but acer has dual dvd writer but no card reader, and is 14.1 screen wheareas the mini is 8.9 i was going to get those but same price i get bigger screen if i had to spend 500 or more then there were always more options but my home pc is a monster anyways, this is just on the side , 399 was like ok price for a laptop so i got it

so you want a 14.1 inch for a side-tp laptop.. OK.. i thought a netbook would be more useful for u.. hey, if you like it for what you paid, its all good... if you ask me tho.. id say its not such a good deal.. 1gb ram is almost outdated nowadays.. i saw something on edealinfo which was a dual core with 3gb ram etc for 130 more.. I'm just saying, if it was me, I'd buy something more current....

Rajeev - what's going to be the intended usage? Windows Vista runs sluggishly with 1GB ram. If you put Windows XP on it, it will be much faster IMO. Like cricketics said not much use with different ports missing. But it should be a good laptop for Just surfing and some basic video works. One more thing - this has 6 cell battery - IMO, this laptop will last 9 months to 1 year before needing some updates/fixing. This is ok deal for net browsing etc.

hmm tough choice dell pros are 1. intel processor 2. upgradable ram (highly recommended) 3. bigger hdd 4. more usb 5.better quality cons are 1. 4 cell battery instead of 6 cell (upgradable..) 2. earlier graphics card id go for dell

Rajeev 4 cell vs 6 cell vs 9 cell - has following considerations. 1. Dimensions - 9 cell is bulky and adds weight to your laptop. 2. Life without mains sypply is typically - ~2 hours for 4 cell , ~3 hours for 6 cell and 4-5 hours fo 9 cell for web browsing. IMO dell is better deal, but make sure you have warranty on it and Core2 Duo processor instead of the one that you get. [50$ upgrade]. Core2 Duo processor is much better for power management and perf as compared to pentium dual core. For dell , check the wireless card option. It's saying 802.11 g or 802.11N. Just to make sure that it's compatible with the router you have.

Rajeev, The basic point here is, you should rather spend 650 and get a computer that will be competent for the next 3-4 years, as compared to getting one for 500 that gets obsolete in 2.
