The conference scheduled for 10.30 began early by Pakistani standards, since the Indians arrived only 90 minutes late. Mr Kumar faced the press alone for a short while, dexterously fielding questions thrown at him. The Indian media seems to have trained him well. Cracking jokes, laughing and switching from English to Urdu to Punjabi, he was completely relaxed, and had the media men eating out of his hand. The 37-year-old artist said this visit to Pakistan “was the first, and like a dream come true”. Mr Kumar said a number of actors and people from the film industry wanted to visit Pakistan, but so far had been “unsure, afraid of the response they’d get”. “But we have been showered with nothing but love and respect from the moment we stepped on Pakistani soil. Hopefully, this visit will improve things and assure people back home.” Mr Kumar was quoted in the Indian press as saying he would not work in propaganda movies, or say anything against Pakistan. His upcoming venture Ab Tumharay Hawale Watan Sathio, features India and Pakistan coming together to fight terrorism. Asked if the terrorism was politically or religiously motivated, he was at a loss for an answer. “I don’t know,” he said. Mr Kumar said he has limited his work to three to four flicks a year, because family commitments take up a lot of his time. He is married to Bollywood star Twinkle Khanna and has a child. He feels it is a bit too early to say anything about co-productions. While talks have begun, he was unwilling to reveal too much: “I cannot say anything about my own projects. I jinx myself by speaking too soon!” “Pakistani superstar Shaun [sic], may agree to a movie in Bollywood,” he said, talking about his meeting with Shaan. Having spent over 24 hours in Pakistan, Mr Kumar said being here was no different from being in India. “We have similar cultures, but can’t seem to find common ground to bring them together.” “I’ve been listening to Naseebo Lal for over two weeks now, and am extremely fond of watching Pakistani plays,” he said. Shilpa Shetty was bubbling with excitement. “I’m so very happy,” she gushed. “Visiting Pakistan was something I’ve always wanted, I had heard so much about the Pakistanis. And really, this experience has been beyond my wildest expectations. “The people here are very warm-hearted, and the women very, very beautiful,” she added. Ms Shetty feels the Indian industry is not churning out propaganda movies, but, in fact, stories keeping the viewers’ entertainment in mind. “Bollywood has never produced any movie to intentionally hurt Pakistanis. If unintentionally, we have hurt your sentiments, on behalf of the Indian film fraternity, I apologize to everyone today. Never has it been our intention, not in the past nor in future.” Ms Shetty recalled the “impromptu” movement onstage, during her performance at Thursday night’s performance, when she kissed the Pakistani flag. “It was not planned – nor choreographed,” she said, “I’m looking forward to a time when we will be able to come together without fearing consequences.” She stressed the fact that whenever tensions rose between the two countries, artists from both sides of the border tried to ignite and develop love and affection between the masses. “We are working to bring people together,” she said, “and I will say it again, all movies should be watched for their entertainment value.” Taking about the turn Bollywood movies were taking, depicting sexually explicit scenes, Ms Shetty was quick to point out her movies could not be accused of selling sex. “It’s a phase,” she said, and Mr Kumar interrupted her by adding that, “The issue itself requires another press conference.” Ms Shetty and Mr Kumar both felt the trip had been too short, and too much to see and visit had been left out. Both promised to return. “Give us love,” Ms Shetty said, “We ask for nothing more.” Also present at the press conference were Indian TV actor Sajid Khan, brother of famous Indian choreographer Farah Khan, and Pakistani star Reema, who turned up to endorse the peace process and thank her counterparts for coming to Lahore. Kudos to MR Ramzan Sheikh, owner of the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club, for organising such an event. In collaboration with an Indian group GS Entertainment, the RPGCC played host to a troupe of over 70 Indian performers including Suniti Chauhan, Sajid Khan, Shaan, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar and Jatin Lalit. “We want to be pioneers in the peace process, and we want to promote our artists in India,” said RPGCC Marketing Director Saniya Sajid. “And you can surely look forward to cultural events that have been planned for the future,” she said.

There are "closet" sympathisers in Shahrukh Khan+Farah Khan combo. Worse if they come-up with another movie like "Main Hoon Na" and psy-ops Indian public about Hindu Terrorism, some bad villain in Indian army preventing peace with our "peace" loving beloved neighbor.

Never made sense to me since when his dad and mom were born, it was all India. He went on to say " So when I watch Indo-Pak cricket, I am happy either way." What the **** man. No one in Indian Punjab claims that their parents are/were from Pakistan so they are happy either way. Btw this was some show where both Indian and Pakistani players were present. Bhajji and co were made to dance etc. Chak de yaara. SRK looks for some cheap publicity everytime he is on camera. IMO, this man does not care about people's feelings and all he cares about is being "#1" and make more $$ every ***ing second.

When he had visited Pakistan (or maybe the Pakistan minister visited India, I don't quite know), Shahrukh kept telling him that he had many friends and fans in Pakistan, etc. So the minister told him about the Pak entertainment industry and asked him to move there- when SRK dramatically replied 'Phir be dil hain Hindustani' - which led to the creation of the movie. It was printed in a tabloid at the time of release.

Had he said this Indian media would have gone 'ga-ga' over this issue and SRK would have been portrayed as our soldier by our media.
