Ram Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I once got slapped so hard by a teacher for doing something as trivial as dropping a black-board duster that she asked me to bring, that it still rings in my ears. :D But honestly, students are treated like dirt in Indian educational institutions. The worst thing is, it continues even in college, when the students are quite old. Academics is everything for us. If you score good marks in your exams, then you become the blue-eyed boy/girl of all the teachers. If you dont, then get ready to be repeatedly humiliated publicly. Recently, I was talking to a college friend of mine who also went went abroad to do his masters. We were reminiscing about the old days and one of the major points of discussion was how dreadfully our teachers used to treat us in school and college. And I am not just talking about physical beating alone... Its the entire package of insults/jibes/ mocking comments. For eg, if a guy got caught for something he did, the first question that would be asked was 'Do you have any arrears?' and if by chance he did, then God save that guy. In India, every little action you do is related to your academic performance. Its so ridiulous to the point where students with below average marks were even discouraged from participating in cultural/sports events. Terrible.

Darn folkz (some of them - *not* ALL) have so much further to go before things change in India. Unfortunately, some parents put up or even support this cra.p. Thanks for the parents (desi cartman's is one example) who stand up to such practices and demand a change. I hope nowadays more parents (newer generation) dont put up with this BS of some teachers/schools.
