Mr. Wicket
Boss has started a thread on Indian bowling woes. For some strange strange reason Boss chose to sample data from 1995 to the present in one lot, which I find ridiculous. :winky: The Indian bowling eras can be broken down into three general eras: 1. Before TAV (can be broken down further into times of the spin quartet, etc) 2. TAV (The Dark Age) 3. After TAV (data from games played in the time of TAV where TAV was not picked due to common sense prevailing or injury are included here). Era #2 is set apart from the other two periods due to the supremely weak Indian bowling attacks that existed, for certain reasons that often start and end with the invokation of TAV's name. This can be proven looking at an old nemesis of India's, Venerable Australian Kaptaan Ricky Ponting. Ponting's test record against India is as follows: 41 innings (with 3 not outs), 1787 runs and 6 hundreds and fifties at an average of 47.02. When broken down to fit these three eras, Ponting's record is fascinating. Era 1; Before TAV (when all was well and good and the attack lacked fire in the eyes, gas in the belly and a four ball every over): 7 innings and 132 runs with a highest score of 60, 1 fifty and an average of 18.85 Era 2: The dark age of TAV 14 innings - 3 not outs - and a whopping 1081 runs at an average of 98.27!!! Four hundreds - including two doubles and his two highest career scores, and a few fifties to boot. Era 3: After/without TAV (the dawn rising again - again, games played by RTP in the era of TAV but without his generous supply of four balls and pumped fists are included here) 20 innings that leave us with 574 runs, 2 hundreds, and an average of 28.70 This is the effect of TAV, and the first of many reasons why Indian bowling history should be separated into these eras. Not only did Pwnting's two highest scores come in the time of TAV, but his average in the non-TAV eras more than TRIPLES when our hero played. (Boss, you've GOT to do some more formal stat work to see which other batsmen have cashed in so much in the times of TAV :--D) Link to comment

coffee_rules
In other internet forums (rsc), TAV is reserved for the God of cricket!. This is the first time of I am hearing about referring it to Agarkar who is known as Sandaaskar, Eggy, or Aag. Link to comment

The Outsider
 Classic!! Ponting should send over a cheque of $5000 each month to Aag!! Now we know Ponting is likes playing with fire. Link to comment

Mr. Wicket
Good grief, Boss! Vaughan, Ponting, Inzamam, MoYo, Hayden, Afridi, Nasser frigging Hussain, Stewart... what a list. The age of TAV truly was a terrible one... Link to comment
umpire
to be fair, Aggy had Ponting plumb in front in Adelaide and Melbourne when he had not crossed double figures. Link to comment
coffee_rules
The stat is misleading. During the same time, even Srinath and VP adn to some extent since 2001 even ZK, were bowling too. So, we can say, they make the worst bowling attack. Link to comment
