Holysmoke
In that case fineleg: How about coming up with some examples of what other senior players in other teams have done of this significance? I mean, we're talking about SRT giving Yuvraj serious advice to take him from being Mendis' bi tch in the last series to slapping every Sri Lankan bowler around. A few months ago, there was this. http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticleNew.asp?xfile=data/sports/2008/June/sports_June883.xml§ion=sports&col= SRT influencing the team in a lot of other ways as a senior and bringing out the best of others. http://www.espnstar.com/cricket/ranji-trophy/news/detail/item189795/%22Sachin-buoyed-entire-team%22/ or Tendulkar's influence in the Ranji This is a quote from Jaffer on the Bombay lift in performance for the final Or there's another article by Amre here: http://www.indianexpress.com/news/tendulkars-presence-inspires-others-to-deliver-amre/407830/ Now, how about you back your point by again showing us some similar evidence of other senior players - Dravid, Ponting, Hayden, Vettori, Lara, Chanderpaul, Vaughan, etc - having such impacts on other players and teammates? Dont forget who's idea it was to make Dhoni captain. I bet even finey will concede that Dhoni as a captain has been a masterstroke, when Yuvraj was top contender... Link to comment
fineleg
I can recognize the 'lets bait fineleg' tactics - so will offer a few links, and I praise the God Almighty for his inimitable greatness, and then not gonna take any further baits: http://cricketnext.in.com/news/pujara-to-turn-to-dravid-for-tips/36950-13.html http://www.deccanherald.com/content/May52008/sports2008050566362.asp http://thatscricket.oneindia.in/news/2008/11/24/zaheer-helped-me-a-lot-ishant-sharma.html Gavaskar helps God Almighty himself: http://www.rediff.com/cricket/2001/mar/20ten.htm http://www.hindu.com/2006/12/13/stories/2006121302811900.htm And yes for the umpteenth time, what SRT did to help Yuvi was great, but I dont think even SRT will claim that he is unique for doing this. Gosh, I guess we need to say SRT is the only greatest on earth. There, said it. Happy? Link to comment
Holysmoke
Actually I distinctly remember an interview saying that Pujara was disappointed he didnt get to talk to Dravid. There were millions of articles saying, that he wanted to talk,(before the game) but there was a couple where he said he didnt get to talk,(after the game) and that he hoped his team would get to the final so he could try to talk to SRT. 100,000 to the person who can find that interview for me. fineleg
as long as this is not 'desh drohi' to help out a fellow cricketer no matter which country: http://cricket.expressindia.com/old/worldcup/07/story.php?storyid=84566 Dravid is known for his gestures in international cricket. Periodically he offers advice to a number of young cricketers from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on how to improve their cricket. A number of Bangladesh cricketers benefited from his insight and advice on the game when India last toured the neighbouring country in 2004. Pakistan's Younis Khan had also acknowledged how Dravid's advice turned around his career in 2004. It was in 2004 Champions Trophy in England when Younis had requested Dravid for batting tips. "I talked with Dravid who gave me some tips about batting and about life. After that everything has changed so I have just followed his instructions and the results are there," he had said. The results were so good for Younis that he, at one stage of his career, had hit four centuries in four Tests against India. Link to comment

Mr. Wicket
Interesting, fineleg. Just the odd one or two snippets like these on some of those players - Zaheer, Dravid, etc - whereas there are COUNTLESS others on Tendulkar, with even guys like Dravid (from old CI magazine interviews) really looking up to him and taking advice? Shows that Tendulkar has an influence in a dressing room that most others don't match. But that's what some of us - actually, most - in fact, almost all bar yourself - have said all along for an age. fineleg
SRT is a legend, no question abt that. Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
No question? Then why are so many people constantly trying to get that same sense through to you, when you keep protesting that he's no different from other cricketers and his presence in the dressing room doesn't add anything extra while turning your eyes otherwise from all fact and logic? Yes, no question he is a legend. He is not the only legend we have seen. Not all the players are legends. There are only a few in Indian history, and he is one, a great one. Link to comment

Guest dada_rocks
Finey no other cricketer has this sort of impact where few wise words turn a pure dodo into bowler-slayer.. This guy knows inside oout of batsmanship. Ask Warne, according to him Sachin remembers each and every of his dismissal like back of his palm. Got to give it.. This guy is something out of this world. Link to comment

I am glad that he has delivered not only in the last couple of tests but it must have taken a strong mind to come back like he has done against Mendis. Another successful series in NZ and we would have replaced Ganguly without a hitch....now if that makes me a hater or anti Punjabi, I have no clue. Link to comment

Everyone knows how talented he is, so when he isn't performing it is frustrating Link to comment
