I have seen him for a duration during the Ranji semi against Mumbai, he was dealt with brilliantly by Sachin, Jaffer and co., was very economical, flights the ball well, has the skidder effect sometimes, but all in all a very smart operater. Not better than Ojha, but not far behnd !!!
ok so better bet than ojha for ODIs considering he can bat too?

why is not irfan doing well then?he was our 2nd best bowler today. wat i meant with balaji is exactly wat u mentioned,he would bowl a loosener every over.he can get away with it in ranjis, not in ODIs.bowling 50 overs doesnt say anything about ODI bowler, hes gotta bowl only 10. i'm not saying stats should nt be used for selection,i'm saying they shouldnt be lone criteria.there is a certain X- factor that u can pick up only while watching players.
2nd best ??? :hysterical: we had no best bowlers today, Ishy took some wickets but no where close to the best and Raina was economical with his six and that was that We had no first best or second best, they all were off color. About Irfan, Ive watched him since 2004 and i have seen three version of this boy, 1.) The king of swing, devastating, WAkram clone in Auz and Pak, destroying opponents with his swing and pace, getting them on the back foot or knocking them over 2.) Then came the Dravid-Chappel era, where we saw an economical Pathan, coming in first change and rolling his arm over, but keeping it tight, at the same time his batting saw a meteoric rise. 3.) The current Pathan, who is in nowhere land, doesnt realize or know his role in the team, is he an all rounder, a strike bowler or a bowler who bowls first change, he has now an undefined role in the team and more so he has lost the swing and pace, which made him lethal, now a days he gets spanked all around the park Having said all that, i hope he gets picked for the Kiwi ODI's, coz those are the conditions under which he might revel !!!

Not yet, coz we need a specialist spinner in the 11, for now he is in direct competition with YKP !!!

he has gone thru ups down too much from being a star to warming the benches,it can be hard to handle for the best. i think we need to give him 4-5 straight games.if we can give continous opportunities to youngsters, why not him?

i hope that too,we need to show faith in him ,atleast for kiwi ODIs

Chances should be given and at a stretch too, but sometimes we just cant sacrifice the Team's cause just to blood in a youngster or to get someone's form back, its upon the individual to grab his chance and instill faith in his captain that he is ready for first team action !!! I hope he is picked for NZ and he does well there !!!

agree but with some cricketers,u gotta give extra games bcoz u know they are giving their 100% effort n wen they click, they will win the match for the team.irfan falls in that bracket for me.

This guy, Jadeja, reminds me of our batsmen from 90s(exception Sachin) ...used take 4-5 overs to settle down and even if the got settled, Final Indian score would be around 230....... saw the match till 45th over and this guy didnt even try hitting the ball over the circle even ONCE!!!!... never even tried to up the run-rate..shame that the guy gave the rolee to Pathan, Balaji to increase the tempo...i rather take a guy at#7 who can either make score runs quickly or who get out soon without killing the tempo...I hate 30s of 50 balls players...takes us nowhere ... i dont wanna see another Kaif anymore...if Jadeja plays like what he did today, he is useless.... if India wants to win worldcup, Selectors please keep these kindda players Far Far away...

Rite ???[/quote'] it doesnt matter me seeing him first or last time.. the problem is that his innings of yesterday was PAIN to the eyes... what was he doing there..... i understand that we already lost too many wickets but playing like that was totally useless.... i rather loose by a big margin while playing for win than what we did today... its like we gave up the game in 39th over.... he was plumb to Murli twice and the worst part was the guy didntnot even try to increase the runrate... i dont want to see that kinda player at #5,6,7 position... deserving guys like Kohli, M.Tiwary and even R.Sharma are better than this joker

all i know is that there is nothing called "loosing by respectable margin"... for me, either you WIN or LOSE.... and Jadeja innings yesterday made sure that we loose..... and regarding his domestic stats, there are tons and tons of domestic bullies like Jaffer, Badri, Chopra ... it doesnt mean anything @ international arena...

That lad did what Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and for that fact even Viru couldnt do, ie stick around, had he been sent up the order and made that 60 of 77 with a partner we might have won !!!

This Rahul guys is very similar to a lot of those guys on PP. He would rather get kicks from the fastest 50 or breaking the speed gun than watch India win consistently. This obsession with pace and strike rates is one of the reason Pak cricket is in such dire strates and they are carrying passengers like Afridi and druggies like Akhtar in the team Yes, losing with dignity is othing at all. 250 all out is the same as 75 all out I presume?

So what do you suggest the selectors to look at when selecting new comers ? Do you think selectors should select bowlers who will excite the speed gun or batsmen who would hit 2 6's in 3 balls (3rd ball they get out) ?

firstly its not players but PCB who is destroying Pak Cricket....Pakistan was a gr8 team in 90s.... Reason aggressive batsmen and bowlers... IMO,our current Indian team is better version of Pakistan team of 90s... reason we have more aggressive batsmen and good Pace attack ....i dont wanna see those 90s style Indian players....if we want to #1, we have to be aggressive in batting, bowling and fielding... and Yes for me, there is nothing called losing with dignity...i rather get all out chasing 320 than a final score of 220/2......

for bowlers... I wish your statement comes out to be true... enough of those Doda Ganesh, Kuruvilla, Prasad, Yohanan type bowlers.. regarding batting... No.. u think Sehwag, Sachin, Gambhir Yuvraj, Dhoni, Pathan, Raina are tuktuk batsmen...they are always looking to make runs with an odd boundary or six every other over...... doesnt matter what the situation is.... thats the qualification i want.... i wanna see India strike fear in opposition, not to bend over
