is daryl harper incompetent or deliberately trying to sabotage the review system because he feels he will be found out as a poor umpire if the referrals become a norm?.how can any person with reasonable eyesight give powell out after the replays showed there was huge daylight between bat and ball and harper adviced hill that it was out!!.either harper has regressed too badly and he is not fit to be on the panel or he is sabotaging the referrals. the 3rd umpire role in the referrals should be better defined imo.

That does not make sense. If Harper botches up referral decisions, he risks maligning his personal reputation even further and does not sabotage the concept of referrals. So, there is no question of him deliberately giving wrong decisions to discredit the referral system. Even assuming he did so, he is the one who stands to lose, not the system. Reg. the decision itself, it wasnt as easy as it seemed. In 2-D, its almost impossible to judge depth. Your mind somehow has to add 'perspective' to the 2-D image you get and decide whether it was out or not. Obviously Harper couldnt do that. A few minutes AFTER the dismissal, during the innings break, they were showing synchornized split screen images of the ball with respect to the bat from two camera angles. That clearly showed the ball missed the bat. Harper, however, didnt have the benefit of this when he made the decision. But once again, the question of him deliberately giving inaccurate verdicts is invalid. The whole world can see what he sees. So, if he falters, he is one who stands to lose.

Whether or not you acknowledge this the "Oldskool" old boys club is alive and kicking within the ICC ... they will do their damndest to get this referal system out of the way as its simply not in their long term interests if it survives.
Hey Boss, check this out. http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/389671.html "In Halbish's book Run Out, he gives the details of "Project Snow", a "genuine option for Australia and its closest allies to counter a power play by the subcontinent and South Africa". " I'm now thinking of finding a copy just to get all the gory details and see just what sort of broking and powermongering was going on here.

If Darren Powell was a batsman higher up in the order I bet Harper wud not have given it. This happens quite often against most of the tail enders. Remember he overturned three of Tyron Hill's decisions in that match. I remember Michael Holding letting it go "It(the referral system) is just like a computer if you put garbage in you get garbage out. The problem is not with it, it depends on what you put it".:giggle:

BCCI is not against Referals ... if it was they would have already shelved it quietly .... most players from all countries that have participated in the trial have given positive feedback to this experiment. But the current Series (WI-vs-Eng and then SAF-vs-AUS) will be crucial for its survival as these 4 countries are the main haramis that would benefit from the trial not succeeding .
Boss Bhai, But why is BCCI not actively pursuing this, and talking it up? They need to do more to get this system in, rather than be "I don't care all that much" spectators.

Saw your post and became a bit curious, so checked up project snow and found this article, its a summary of Project Snow is written based upon the information provided in Graham Halbish’s book, Run Out. http://historyofcricket.blogspot.com/2008/01/project-snow.html
