spectre Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 however the conditions are' date='u still need ability to swing the ball.sree has that in abundance.if he was fit there was no reason to exclude him n include munaf.munaf at best can bowl line n length.he cant swing it like sreesanth.he doesnt have pace like sree.economical bowling doesnt help much in test cricket,if u cant trouble the batsmen.also,i would rather take 4 for 50 than 1 for 20 from our main bowlers[/quote'] WTH that people go gaga over sreesanth. He bowled one super spell against SA and one good spell against Aus in T20 semifinal Apart from that, he is one indisciplined bowler who leaks runs like anything. In numerous ODIs i have seen him, he bowled way too crap, big half volleys, spraying so many wide HIT ME balls, which makes a mockery out of the captain setting the fields Talent is nothing without discipline (i mean only with this cricketing skills) Remember, he almost lost us the WC final with that sh1t penultimate over, spraying balls everywhere Most people remember only his catch, not that over he bowled Just because some commentators go overboard with his seam position, will that automatically make him a great bowler for heavens sake, he hasnt done anything spectacular for his comeback, he played what, 2-3 matches in the last 1 year, and you folks want him directly into national team and don't say, in test matches, u can afford to leak runs. Quick runs causes momentum shift, which is hard to get back, we have seen India in the past let go of this momentum shift even if they had 2-3 quick wickets, its because of the ineffective backup bowlers, who were easy to hit and get runs Its not Kumble was a spin wizard, but because of this consistency, persistence and superb discipline, he took 600+ wickets

Let him try to win more matches for India to be first labeled a matchwinner

Let him try to win more matches for India to be first labeled a matchwinner i havent said matchwinner.i said he's a mtchwinner ON HIS DAY.wen he will perform,he will win the match for you almost singlehandedly.that innings in SA he completely destroyed them n won the match for us.in T20 game too he did great.how many times u see figures of 2 for 12 in 4 overs in a T20 where 180 have been scored?sree did that. how many such spells u can recall of Munaf? i can recall none

Tests or ODI's In Test matches hez proved his worth on most occasions England, South Africa, who are the two out of the three against whom he has plyed his trade at the highest level I wouldnt pick him for the ODI's personally, but for the Tests, he would be my 3rd seamer without a doubt (fitness paramount)

Let him try to win more matches for India to be first labeled a matchwinner Sree has got to be the easiest 140+ kph bowler to belt around in International cricket. Heck even in Duleep trophy this guy was leaking runs at 5+ rpo. Rox, Kookabura ball swings for max 8-10 overs..What use is Sree after that? And we know Zak and Ishant are gonna open the bowling.. Are you aware of a skill called "seaming the ball"? I doubt after reading your posts..Anyway Munaf has the skill while Sree doesn't. Hence i believe munaf,if fit, is our best 1st change seamer.Bowled brilliantly in the last Test that he played vs Pak with no rewards.I would prefer him anyday over Sree when both are fit and esp when we have Zak and Ishant.
spectre Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 I am talking about all formats...Tests in particular as its the point of discussion here England - 3 matches, 6 innings, 9 wickets, SR 75.3 WI - 3 matches, 6 innings, 10 wickets, SR 57.6 SA - 3 matches, 6 innings, 18 wickets, SR 38.3 ( with a 5'fer) So, one good series(18-5=13 in 5 innings), two average/below par, and he suddenly becomes a matchwinner. If this is the standard to evaluate a matchwinner, its a pity

Sree was busy with his usual antics. SA is the only place he has shown his worth.

I was referring to his series against England at home, ne wayz if fit and had to choose between "Piss poor attitude Munaf" and "Antics specialist Shree" i would defn go with the later !!! esp in NZ !!!
spectre Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 compare them with munaf n u'll know I didnt call Munaf a matchwinner. He is not by any strech of imagination. You called disco a matchwinner and I posted the stats to show how great a matchwinner he was Dont degrade a matchwinner title by trusting it on people like sreesanth. btw, Your avatar has one
Show_stopper Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 compare them with munaf n u'll know The only place they played together was in WI..i don't care what the figures say,Munaf our best bower there. He never got to play in any of these other tours. In the sub-continent where the seam movement is less i would definitely prefer Sree but not otherwise.
