Well this confirms my belief: The only series they both played in outside the sub-continent was against WI Sreesanth http://stats.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engine/player/34274.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;opposition=4;template=results;type=allround Munaf http://stats.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engine/player/32965.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;opposition=4;template=results;type=allround Munaf has the slightly better stats. Munaf the Test bowler is very good but he really fails on most occasions in LOI as he gets too predictable. And we know who is the bowler with more control..Just look at Sreesanth's recent form..he was going at over 5 rpo in plate league matches!! and Duleep trpohy.

thats was different.munaf of that time could bowl at 140+ ks and could bowl toecrushing yorkers n could reverse it.i remember how he bowled gayle n stumps went flying to almost wicketkeeper.BUT he has lost all that.he struggles to bowl 130 now n cant bowl those yorkers. but sreesanth can still bowl 140ks.he can still swing it.he can still bowl yorkers n nasty bouncers.

Wrong. The only series he has played outside the sub-continent.Anyways wasn't Munaf a success in his debut series against England, the very same series whre Sree's performances are being considered? From your post where you have put up Munaf's performances..he seems to average 21 in that series!!

Sree was trundling in at 124-128 kph in the domestic games that i saw recently(Duleep Trophy). OTOH Munaf was hitting the 138-140 kph range in the England and SL ODIs (August)

OK guys lets get this straight Shree Can swing the ball both wayz, impecable seam position and would be a handful in NZ, he is a trier, persistenet and a handy lower order bat Muna Acts like a McGrath clone, can be thrown off his length, has very little offer to the team with his piss poor attitude, sucks with the bat Looking at the above the choice for the third seamer is quite evident !!!

He played one game in SL and was spanked all over the park and then he broke down !!!

Maybe its just my pre-conceived notions but i just can't stand clowns.I seriously despise the guy and would never like to see him represent India again. Thanks to that public sobbing display..we get endless amount of ridicule heaped on us at PP. Hes such a self-centred person and an attention *****:finger:

Regardless of talent, the Patel pick is based on the single most important factor in the upcoming tours: MS Dhoni. It's pretty clear to me that Dhoni far prefers a bowler who can bowl to fields and according to a plan, and Munaf Patel's line/length with the ability to seam the ball fits this. You can see this in the latest ODI series where Dhoni was critical of bowlers who weren't bowling according to a plan and Ishant owned up to that later. Munaf Patel gives us a guy who has an accurate line/length, will bowl to a field and has decent talent. Now, if you prefer all out attacking bowlers, who can't bowl to a plan, are erratic, inconsistent but have the ability to take wickets then maybe Sreesanth is your type of bowler. But that's not what Dhoni wants. Until Sreesanth can prove over a sustained period of time that he can bowl consistently, accurately, and with control then as long as Dhoni is the captain I don't see him being a regular pick. Think back to the test against Aus where for almost an entire session Dhoni thwarted Australia's run scoring with 8 fielders to the offside and ZK/Ishant bowling to the field. With Sreesanth you would never get that even in domestic cricket. So if Sreesanth has any brains to go along with his dancing skills he'll realize this and improve as that kind of bowler. It's pretty much as simple as that.

Yes, thank you. Munaf was consistently bowling around the 135 mark without exerting himself on his comeback last August and was seaming the ball extremely well giving the Sri Lankans very little room to swing their bats. Which is the IDEAL role for the first change bowler in test match cricket. Especially when we won't go with two spinners so we'll need an extra bowler to can tie up one end. On the same pitches Praveen Kumar barely managed 130mph and was no option once the ball got old. Praveen may be a decent ODI guy as a backup but he should never, ever, go near test match cricket. The problem with Munaf and it's the same with Sreesanth is that their both one dimensional bowlers. When they get whacked around for runs or come up against a solid batsmen in form they can't mentally adjust. Munaf just bowls short balls then and still gets smacked away, and Sreesanth literally breaks down mentally in front of your eyes with his accuracy, theatrics, and messed up bowling when it happens to him. This is why Ishant/ZK are far and away our best bowlers because they fight back so well and play their own game instead of being intimidated by the batsmen. Even Harbhajan gets into defensive mode when the batsmen attack him and it's a real troubling sign that our most experienced bowler can get intimidated like that. I think deep down harbhajan is probably a very insecure guy who covers it up by putting on an aggressive attitude on the outside, but that's a whole different story. Zaheer Khan though in contrast, in particular is one of most awkward bowlers for batsmen to face with the new ball because once Zaheer senses that the batsmen are adjusting and reading the line/length easily he'll change things up by going over or around the wicket and he still maintains his control and accuracy. Ishant, being the great learner that he is has also learned this well from Zaheer. I can't explain to you how hard it is for a bowler to do that. You're into your first spell and suddenly during an over you have to change your angle to the batsmen yet still maintain that control of putting the ball exactly where you want from a different angle/run up/delivery action.

swing the ball both wayz - not really, he can bowl few outswingers, thats about it, most of the time, its erratic darts handy lower order bat - are you choosing him for his No.11 batting capabilities piss poor attitude - yes, he does, but when he is fit, he bowls like a mcgrath clone, which certainly is NOT as bad thing sucks with the bat - doesnt matter

I think Dhoni has had enough of this joker Munaf is not great, but its the best we have as a third seamer now That is why, I really want Irfan to comeback as what he was before

Yeah, our 3rd seamer position has been full of fail for quite some time. We do manage to get performances now and then but there's no clear cut guy who can bowl first change. Every time I think Pathan is on his way back he doesn't convince me and Patel still has a lot to learn. Maybe Kulkarni can show something. I don't know too much about him other than he's done well in FC this season. And we need to find someone soon, I don't see ZK playing much past the WC and no matter how good our batting is, we're an incomplete team without three good fast bowlers.
