Donny
Yes. Does look strange to see him ahead of Bracken, Murali, Vettori, Zaheer, Johnson etc. but, historically, 724 is a fairly low rating for a top 3 in the rankings. Last 12 matches: 22 wickets @ 22 Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
Lulz! But how hard is it to get Afridi? A short, and very incomplete list of some of the illustrious names who have removed this BEASTLY BEASTLY BEAST OF BURDEN for 10 or less in ODIous games. Jimmy Adams, Debashish Mohanty (TWICE!), Everton Matambanadzo, Merv Dillon, Khaled Mahmud, Mohammad Sharif of Bangladeshi non-fame, Grant Flower on multiple occasions, Darren Lehmann, Dinesh Mongia, legendary Hong Kong bowler Nadeem Ahmed, Reon King... maan my fingers are tiring. Last 12 matches: 22 wickets @ 22 Says something as well about the quality of bowling in ODIs, either that or the level to which ODIs have turned against bowlers with flat pitches and tiny boundaries. Half of the top 10 (Kulasekara, Mills despite his improvement, Mortaza, Broad and Shakib) are names I wouldn't normally expect to see in a bowling top 10. Link to comment

Sehwag rockets into top 10, Yuvraj 3rd in all-rounder's chart Press Trust Of India Dubai, March 16, 2009 First Published: 12:31 IST(16/3/2009) Last Updated: 12:36 IST(16/3/2009) Virender Sehwag broke into top 10 and Sachin Tendulkar returned to top 20 in batsmen's chart while Yuvraj Singh rose to a career-best third place in the all-rounder's table following India's 3-1 series win against New Zealand. Sehwag and Tendulkar were the biggest movers in the ICC ODI Player Rankings after their splendid performance in the recent series against New Zealand. Sehwag, who scored 299 runs against the Black Caps, jumped nine places to sixth position in the latest rankings for ODI batsmen, headed by his captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It is the first time in nearly six years that Sehwag has occupied a place in the top 10. Tendulkar has also made a movement in the right direction as his series scores of 20, 61 and 163 not out have helped him vault eight places to 13th spot. Yuvraj and Gautam Gambhir, however, dropped one and four places respectively in the batsmen's chart. Yuvraj now sits in fourth place while Gambhir shares 16th spot with South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs. Link to comment

Shane
The man's only played six Tests since he debuted 4 years ago. He's played 52 ODIs. It just felt as if he had played a lot more, he had a decent outing against us last year and if anything expected him to be quite up that list, but him being ranked along with Jayawardene, surely came as a suprize Link to comment

More... Gambhir achieves career-best Test ranking on No.3 19 May 2009, 1913 hrs IST, PTI DUBAI: India opener Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday jumped to his career-best ICC Test ranking of number three, thanks to West Indian Shivnarine Chanderpaul's poor show in the recent series against England. Gambhir gained one spot due to Chanderpaul's lacklustre performance in the two-match Test series that saw the West Indian slip two places from joint second in the previous chart to fourth position. Sachin Tendulkar (13), VVS Laxman (15) and Virender Sehwag (20) remained unchanged in the batting chart headed by Pakistan's Younis Khan. In the bowlers' list, gangly fast bowler Ishant Sharma broke into the top 20 while Harbhajan Singh continues to be the top Indian bowler at sixth position. Senior fast bowler Zaheer Khan occupies 11th spot in the bowling list still headed by Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan. No Indian player figures in the top five all rounders' list, which is headed by South African Jacques Kallis. Link to comment
