He is by far the most controversially successful Indian Cricketer of all time. He's been through everything and come out a winner every single time, which endears him even more to his fans. He cannot be wronged and will never be wrong in our eyes. What Buchanan is trying to do might be logical but what it will do is erode KKR's fanatical fanbase and will impact on gate/merchandising revenues etc. Which is why, SRK is busy controlling the damage.

Suraj, you said contributions to Indian cricket. I'm about as big a fan of Laxman as there is (perhaps second to Rohan :D) on this board, but Ganguly's exploits as a captain have been very very influential on Indian cricket.

What about off the field, Gambo? Amarnath moaned and called selectors 'a bunch of jokers'. Gangluddin fought, *****ed, moaned and pulled his strings to make sure Kaif, Bhajji, Yuvraj and Sehwag were given chances. Without him who knows, they might have been playing Ranji cricket a good while longer. He made sure Kumble got taken on tour to Australia in 03/04, without whom we'd probably have lost the series. He fought and pushed Srinath to come back to cricket, and allowed him the glory of a wonderful 2nd wind where he bowled India to the WC final.
