Ram Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I need a decent home theater system (either new or refurbished) for around $300. Any suggestions? And what am I supposed to look for, when buy one anyway? My knowledge of electronics is horribly bad...
suraj Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 $300 seems to be on the lower side for a decent hometheater system- definitely too low for a new one

The Outsider Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Sriram, my advice would be to not go for one of those all in one home theater systems, but build it up component by component. In your budget you can get a good receiver and 2 good box speakers to start off and then keep on adding to that according to your interest and money.
coffee_rules Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 WHat's a good/best brand for a good receiver? I was planning on buying Yamaha RX-V863BL Receiver. Any experiences (good/bad)?

I am shipping it to another address. Obviously, I cant go there and assemble.. :D Btw, I am seeing some amazing deals in this site - www.consumerdepot.com. Their prices are low, but they charge the earth and sky for shipping. Their reviews are mixed. So, I am really left scratching my head..

I have a Denon AVR 1804 - it's extremely good. I have heard good things about Onkyo as well. Of course, there are the more pricey Harmon Kardon and some pricier Pioneer ones.
