As I await (rather excitedly) the 6th of June when Im going to see Oasis (+Kasabian+ The Enemy) at Manchester Saw Metallica at Birmingham a few weeks ago which was amazing. Also bought U2 tkts for August Anyone else going to see anyone interesting...?

What was the Metallica song lineup sooda? Mostly new stuff or any of the old classics (beyond the usual concert faves like Creeping Death + Seek and Destroy)? They're touring here in a few months... looking forward to seeing them in ny.

The only one, Rolling Stones 03' Tour at Brabourne Stadium, never a fan, was dragged along by a friend, "It's Only Rock'n Roll" and "Jumping Jack Flash" were good, the rest were, eh :P

Worth the effort, desi. The best bands seem to really step it up a few notches when in a concert w/ a good crowd. Real artists like Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, AC/DC etc will add a whole lot into their concerts - crazy jams, improvisational bits, some other crazy things that just have your head spinning. Unless you mostly listen to electronic, hip hop or other heavily produced things where most of the ''music'' work is done off computers/soundboards/samples/people tweaking with the audio, live shows are really worth checking out. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=145990&page=3 - some awesome live stuff here to see what i'm on about...

Don't knock Rock You Like a Hurricane, it's one of the few rock songs I like *and* can bust out on a guitar. :--D As opposed to shredding my fingers within about 2 seconds of even trying (and miserably failing) at anything Dave Mustaine ever did on a guitar. anyhoo, back to AC/DC I go. time for THUNDER! MR Wicket Apols for the ridiculously late reply, im not on here enough these days Ohh lets see.. alot of new stuff, yes but very much a mix. They started off with 'That was just your life' from Death Mag and played My Apocalypse live for the first time apparently. Most of the classics were therethough - sandman, master of puppets etc. they even covered Hole in the sky by Sabbath. I cant say im an incredibly huge fan- i dont actually own any of their albums!- but know most of their big songs. Awesome live band.

Thanks Sooda. Glad to know it was a good show with some of the older classics as well. Did they perform the epic ORION by any chance? Probably my all-time favourite heavy metal song... just an amazing piece of music written (and originally done on Master of Puppets) by the greatest bass guitarist ever, Cliff Burton (RIP). They never did the piece in full after Burton's death... until 2006 for the 20th anniversary of the Master of Puppets album shows. Since then it's come into a few shows every now and then (and if it turns out they're making it part of their fall lineup, I'll happily kill and make sure I see at least all four NY-area shows :D). No Orion! - yr right tis an awesome piece indeed. Im sure its great played live. edit: just found set list and gig review on the net..! http://www.sundaymercury.net/entertainment-news/pop-music-news/birmingham-gig-reviews/2009/03/27/metallica-live-at-the-lg-arena-birmingham-review-setlist-and-picture-gallery-66331-23246131/2/ ...Machine Head were there supporting and were great Lots of great lighting- Sandman was the highlight for me (only really because its my favourite metallica song), im glad they played enough older stuff i didnt really know anything off the Death Mag. they came on for seek and destroy and Hole in the sky in the encore been to very few proper metal gigs- Saw Bullet for my Valentine (with Lacuna Coil supporting no less) last year and ive seen linkin park, not sure if that counts hehe- though im bit of a hard rock/metal fan. any future ones will pale in comparision im sure...

Christ, that's a stupid lineup. 6 songs from Death Magnetic (which is decent but really not all that spectacular, and what's worse they left off what IMO is by FAR the best song on the album - All Nightmare Long, which blows away some of the stuff on there). Creeping Death, Seek & Destroy, Nothing Else Matters are pretty much givens on any set, nice they at least did Ride the Lightning, One and Master of Puppets... Sanitarium must have been awesome, but just 7 songs from their first four albums (all of which were phenomenal metal epics and set standards beyond anything they've come close to since) is really a shame. Oh, and no Fuel? That song is MADE for concerts! (Hmm... must find a way to incite a riot if at least two from Harvester of Sorrow, Battery, For Whom the Bell Tolls and Four Horsemen aren't played when I see em. Or I'll just see Megadeth instead.) BTW - for an example of seriously amazing live metal... search youtube for some of Sabbath's live renditions of War Pigs (one of the greatest things I've ever seen in concert), or any of the Megadeth live stuff. wtIV32NZBx0
