The BCCI came uder fire when it came to light that many key players, including MS Dhoni, were selected in the World Cup squad despite carrying injuries. More... BCCI downplays physio reports, says players were 'fit' Agencies Posted: Jun 19, 2009 at 1603 hrs IST New Delhi: Barely a few days after India's shock exit from the Twenty20 World Cup, the BCCI was left grappling with a fresh controversy when it came to light that many key players, including captain M S Dhoni, were selected in the England-bound squad despite carrying injuries. The team physio Nitin Patel had cast a doubt at the fitness levels of as many as five key players in his report to the BCCI before the tournament but all of them were included in the squad. According to reports, the physio's report had mentioned that captain Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, R P Singh and Zaheer Khan had injuries which needed treatment. But despite getting the report before the selection committee meeting, the BCCI decided to select the players in the squad hoping that they would regain full fitness by the time the tournament got underway in England. The BCCI sought to downplay the physio's report and said it was a "routine report" and the injuries sustained by the players were really minor in nature to warrant an omission from the team. "It is a routine report which is given before every tour to assess the fitness of the players. Too much importance should not be attached to the report", BCCI's Media and Finance Committee Chairman Rajiv Shukla said. "After getting the physio's report, the selectors pick players. Sometimes there are only minor injuries and you can not rule out players for whole tour," Shukla said. "Those injuries are supposed to be rectified in three four days so you cannot rule out players for the whole tour. These are routine reports and not much importance should be attached to these," he said. The physio's report had mentioned that Dhoni had a back injury and paceman R P Singh had niggle in his ankle. Sehwag, Yuvraj and Zaheer had shoulder niggles. While only Sehwag was withdrawn midway through the high profile tournament and replaced with wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, all the other players were retained in the squad. Interestingly, Dhoni himself had disclosed at a press conference after India's defeat against South Africa in the last Super Eight match that many of his players were not 100 per cent fit. "Sure very few were 100 per cent fit. Some had ankle, some shoulder injury. That's why they were not in their best in the field. But I am not sure if fatigue is the reason for it. These days you have rehab and can quickly come back to 100 per cent fitness," Dhoni had said after his side's 12-run defeat at the hands of South Africa last Tuesday.

India players carried injuries into T20 World Cup India's cricket board has played down a report from its physiotherapist that five players carried injuries into the Twenty20 World Cup, saying they did not have serious problems. More... India players carried injuries into T20 World Cup Associated Press New Delhi, June 19, 2009 First Published: 18:38 IST(19/6/2009) Last Updated: 18:41 IST(19/6/2009) India's cricket board has played down a report from its physiotherapist that five players carried injuries into the Twenty20 World Cup, saying they did not have serious problems. Press Trust of India said team physiotherapist Nitin Patel's report informed the board that skipper Mahendra Dhoni and his deputy Virender Sehwag were among the T20 squad players who needed treatment. Patel also cast doubt upon the fitness of Yuvraj Singh, Rudra Pratap Singh and Zaheer Khan. "It's a routine report that's given before every tour to assess the fitness of the players," said Rajiv Shukla, chairman of the BCCI's media and finance committee. "Too much importance should not be attached to the report." Sehwag's shoulder injury forced him to drop out of the tournament. India, the defending champion, was knocked out at the super eight stage, and skipper Dhoni acknowledged that several members in his squad were not fully fit. The report comes amid concerns about the lack of rest for India's players, due to the demands of the national team and the Indian Premier League.

BCCI wakes up and takes note, finally The Board of Control for Cricket in India has finally acted to curtail its players from taking part in any additional cricket that might increase their risk of picking up an injury. Anand Vasu reports. More... BCCI wakes up and takes note, finally Anand Vasu, Hindustan Times New Delhi, June 20, 2009 First Published: 00:04 IST(20/6/2009) Last Updated: 00:09 IST(20/6/2009) The Board of Control for Cricket in India has finally acted to curtail its players from taking part in any additional cricket that might increase their risk of picking up an injury. HT learnt on Friday that the Board had denied Yusuf Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja permission to turn out for the Rajasthan Royals in a charity match against Middlesex right after the four-ODI series in the West Indies. To reach London in time to play the T20 match at Lord’s on July 6, Yusuf and Jadeja would have had to fly out of St Lucia on July 5 at 7.30 pm immediately after the final match. Shantanu Chari, the Royals’ head of cricket operations, wrote to the BCCI seeking “the necessary permission to secure their release,” adding that “both players are very keen to play, and are happy to fly overnight, they simply need to leave straight after the game.” 20_06_2009_020_011_002.jpg The Board, however, declined permission, hardly surprising given all the recent talk about the IPL causing players to go into the T20 World Cup carrying injuries. This came on a day when it became public that Virender Sehwag had indeed undergone shoulder surgery in England on June 11, as HT reported, and that it would take him 12-16 weeks to recover. This means that Sehwag could miss the Champions Trophy in September. The Board also downplayed reports that several players carried injuries into the tournament and that team doctor Nitin Patel had suggested that some players were unfit and therefore should not have been selected. HT has accessed the report Patel sent to the Board and it is obvious that the report was a routine one merely stating the niggles five players had suffered and the course of management they needed to adopt.

Looks like the players will never say No to any IPL warmup or IPL-vs-county circus. No matter how tiring or injury prone the agenda is. Good that BCCI stepped in to decline their participation.

# No player can endorse more than 3 products # No same product can be endorsed by more than 2 players. # No players will be allowed to do endorsements two weeks before a tour. # Players will have to seek BCCI's permission before signing endorsement. # All players should play domestic cricket # Players will be paid according to performance
Wonder whether anyone remembers this list.
