triam Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Wow, this is a great day for individual freedom in India, never expected this to happen so soon, I am overjoyed.
cowboysfan Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Guys is there any holy scripture in Hinduism which considers homosexuality a criminal act? i bielieve both old and new testaments consider it unholy.i think its a first step but there is still deep rooted antipathy against gays and lesbians in India which will take a long time to go away.
seedhi Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 because prostitution is often not consensual. there is no open door policy to prostitution: a woman (often sold into prostitution) cannot leave that institution at a time of her choosing. The ills that you are describing are a result of it being unlawful and therefore difficult to regulate. If prostitution were legalized say, then at the very least the girls would be able to approach the police authorities with their complaints without the fear of being harassed. polygamy is the absolute opposite of what this move will promote: commitment to a single individual. besides polygamy is again, rather nonconsensual. You are rather conveniently forgetting that polygamy of upto 4 wives is ALLOWED for Muslims in India. So why not allow it for everyone? finally, what drugs have to do with this is beyond me.Its a matter of individual rights, if I take drugs how does it affect someone else - the same argument being made to allow homosexuality.
kumble_rocks Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Wow' date=' this is a great day for individual freedom in India, never expected this to happen so soon, I am overjoyed.[/quote'] Do you think polygamy should be abolished ?
The Outsider Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Do you think polygamy should be abolished ? I think polygamy should be legalized for all and also polyandry. What consensual adults choose to do in their bedrooms should not be the government's concern. The government should worry about the rapes, murders, extortions, terrorism, and corruption which is rampant in society and not about some gang bang in someone's house.
triam Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Do you think polygamy should be abolished ? watever outsider said.

The Outsider Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 So I believe its a yes for incest too. Yes. As long as the consensual adult condition is fulfilled.
Macj Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Put it in context. Sexual acts between consenting adults of legal age was what I was talking about. Anyway it's been decriminalised now: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/8129836.stm Perfect, verbiage is critical.
Macj Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Yes. As long as the consensual adult condition is fulfilled. Great day for science innit! Screw morality its for Luddites.
Macj Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Zing...! owned with logic and genuine examples! or as is custom: mashallah! you have been pawned! Whats custom is your incessant snideness and utter inability to deal with an opposing point of view.
The Outsider Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Great day for science innit! Screw morality its for Luddites. Don't think you read my comment in an earlier post, "as long as the progenies are uneffected".
seedhi Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Yes. As long as the consensual adult condition is fulfilled. How about allowing sex selective abortion? It is allowed in western nations under the ambit of reproductive freedom. Even milder - How about allowing sex selective fertilization for females? This does not even involve killing of foetus.

You are just asking people one question after another. What is your position on these things you are questioning others on.
triam Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Great day for science innit! Screw morality its for Luddites. Religious people crying hoarse about incest is the biggest joke of the century. Every religion, has incest in its stories or epics. The only reason why incest is considered bad is because of the effects it has on progeny, for a change this was a moral value that came from valid scientific observations, so remove the chance of progeny, and incest is upto the individual.

It's good to see that attitudes are becoming more liberal in India though. Homophobia is unacceptable in my opinion.

At least have them examined to see if their off-springs can face any problems. My dad's friend married his cousin. They had a kid who died as a baby and 2 kids who are born deaf and dumb. :((
seedhi Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Yes, however it is likely to be misused in the Indian society. You are just asking people one question after another. What is your position on these things you are questioning others on.I am only questioning the premise that is given to allow homosexuality - that it is simply a matter of individual rights and does not hurt others. If this logic is followed a lot of other unlawful activities could be legalized. Well at least you are consistent with your stand that anything consensual done by adults behind closed doors should be legalized. I am opposed to this judgment of the High Court allowing homosexuality. For one it opens a HUGE pandoras box. For example, now what is the army supposed to do? They, surely, will find it hard to have gay men in their ranks, and most probably reject gay men during the psychology tests. Now, will the gay men be able to file discrimination complaints against the army? It can be the same in the work place - I can imagine many situations where employers would not want gay men. What are they going to do now? The court judgment has been delivered without due application of thought. Can their be discrimination in jobs against openly gay people? Can a head of the family divest the property rights for his child who has turned out to be gay?

Can a head of the family divest the property rights for his child who has turned out to be gay? Why would the army or employers or anybody dont want gay men? Of course if the employer has his own business and does not get any kind of government funding, he/ she is allowed to do what he/she wants. YEs discrimination aginst gays will be a problem and should be eradicated. yes a head of the family can give his property rights who is gay/lesbian. Why are any of these problems?
Macj Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Don't think you read my comment in an earlier post' date=' "as long as the progenies are uneffected".[/quote'] And how will the progeny NOT be affected? Theyre mating into the same gene pool and its bound to cause health / mental issues. BTW i think marriage amongst cousins is not wise too.
