It is important for the authorities to learn appropriate lessons from this regarding preparedness for an emergency response. One thing that struck me was how calm the terrorists and their controllers were, and how panicky our initial police response was.

Lalus , Gandhis and Advanis have all moved on. I haven't heard about new cost guard , new anti terror cell or anything concrete being done. Its all about hindu - muslim , Chiristian hindu, Gay - Straight , some politician is busy with legally staying married with 2 women and another politician is busy erecting her own statues ... How can I watch this knowing that our politicians have moved on ...

People had no choice , with congress at least they got a stable govt :dontknow: Politics is not easy! As I mentioned in another thread, my wife's real uncle got attacked in UP because he had guts to file nomination and run for MP. He was warned by Mayawati's party and the day before the elections, someone hit him on the head and fractured his skull. He just got discharged from the hospital yesterday after being in coma for so many weeks, he still cant speak and is on oxygen. He wakes up for an hour or 2 everyday and can barely move his arms... and why does he deserve this ? because he pissed off Mayawati or maybe because he didnt hire gundas ... he is a simple man and looked after his villagers , wanted to contribute and this is what he got

Most of the population is educated. well u r right about the muscle power.. sighh... very sad to hear about ur relative though...

umpire Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I was surprised why Mumbai did not vote out current MPs. This time they had some nice independent candidate and one of them IIRC was ABN-AMRO Bank CEO or something. She was moved by Mumbai attack adn that made her take politics.

Lets see.

Lets see. But am absolutely pessimistic whether the voting percentage will be higher. Sadly, no politician is going to pay for this. They were more interested in Dance bars and kicking out north Indians than the security of the country..

This is the bitter truth. Otherwise, how the ruling party in Maharashtra perform so well is beyond my understanding. If the politicians suffer zero consequences of major terrorist acts like Mumbai has been plagued with over the last 5-6 years, then what incentive do they have to take steps to prevent such acts? India seems to have developed a high threshold tolerance for terror strikes - a couple of major attacks every year seem to be fine, as long as they do not cause serious disruption of economic activity.

We seem to have evolved with a thick skin. I cant imagine this happening in any other democracy. 26/11 was a slap on our face and what has the government done? Look at China for example, Its aggressive diplomacy even on issues like Arunachal pradesh which the whole world knows is a part of India. Our govt has always been meek diplomatically and over dependent on the Americans even for probing and punishing the perpetrators behind 26/11..
