10 years on, Kargil still lingers on in the mind of an average Indian. I was in school when this happened, but I get goosebumps whenever I think of the patriotic fervor that filled the air. My most enduring Image was the pic taken after the capture of Tiger hill, chd13.jpg I still remember Capt. vikram Batra ( I watched his interview on NDTV just before his death ) and his famous words, "Either I will come back after hoisting the Indian flag, or I will come back wrapped in it, but i will be back for sure" and "Yeh Dil Maange More!" :isalute::isalute::isalute::isalute::isalute: Your most enduring moments or memories of the war?

I was in primary school at that time, whether it was in year 5 or year 6, I cannot remember. I was in India at that time, visiting my grandparents. At that time, I was too young to understand the ongoing history of the Kashmir conflict, the infiltration into the Indian LOC amongst others. I have vivid memories of my grandparents glued to the television, watching the hourly reports on Doordharshan. Than, I left India It was only years after the original conflict took place, I understood the reasons behind the conflict. It was from this point on, I had developed great sense of respect and admiration for Israel, for they had supplied us the UAV's which were used in the battle of Tiger Hill. The eventual aftermath and the embarassing humiliation suffered by Pakistan at the hands of India, such as the withdrawal from Kargil heights, the disowning of their own soldiers by the government etc has given me enormous feelings of pride and satisfaction. For all the money they spend on the militiary, defense etc, they got their arses kicked in every major combat, from the 1971 war, which resulted in the creation of Bangladesh from East Pakistan and where 90, 000 POW's were taken to the 1999 Kargil conflict, where they fled Kargil heights like a bunch of rats.

The most stupid thing our government has ever done and that's saying something.
Guys come on. The average Indian soldier is risking his life not for the slimy politicians of this country but for us. They have made the ultimate sacrifice with meagre resources. Our govt's incompetence is nothing new. The least we can do is salute these brave soldiers as a tribute to them. Lets focus on the positives please... :bow::bow::bow::bow:

Sorry mate didnt know u were from the other side... I was also referring to the others like Desi cartman...

Nah i can't think of any thing more stupid. Starting a war with a bigger military when relations are finally improving and there are so many internal economic problems pretty much takes the cake. Add nuclear weapons to the mix and it becomes one of the stupidest thing a country has done. That said allowing the massacre of a minority and destruction of a famous religious site on television in a country that prides itself on being secular, democratic and tolerant is still #1 in my books. :icflove:

^^ Not forgotten that's surely high on the "list" as well. Though in that case that was a joint **** up by many parties involved Bhutto, Pakistan Army, India, Awami party a lot of agendas came together to create that loss horrible of civilian life.

Never heard about that, do you have any more info on this ? Any reliable newslinks/articles ?

Mate, its common knowledge that the pakistani govt treated the erstwhile east pakistani citizens as second calss ones. This was the primary reason for the creation of Bangladesh. Rapes and atrocities were used as tools of subjugation. India had nothing to do with it except the creation of Mukthi bahini. As for the Israel part, yes they did help us, a high ranking Israelli defence person came down to India with an urgent shipment of much needed artillery shells and thats it...I dont know much abt mossad though..
