I was just a school boy at that time and did not understand the seriousness of the tragedy. Today it makes me feel ashamed as a Hindu and an Indian when I look back at this. [ame=

First off, what happened then is a huge blot to our country and is a disgrace of the highest magnitude. Had I been born then...I would have definitely not been a proud Indian. BUT..What does being a Hindu have anything to do with this? I would agree if you said you were ashamed to be a Congress voter...but dont get the Hindu part. It is well known that Atal Behari Vajpayee (BJP/RSS) stood up for the Sikhs in the parliament and spoke out against these attacks. Bal Thackeray (Shiv Sena) intervened in Mumbai to save to ensure that no attacks occurred (http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/20050811/nation.htm#5 - thats the link, you'll have to scroll down). Several Hindu families sheltered and protected Sikhs when this atrocity was happening. It is rumored that many of these Congress thugs were Muslims hired from out of town. Unless you are part of the "blame Hindus for everything" psec brigade (in which what you just wrote if perfectly understandable), please explain why you are ashamed to be a Hindu.

Would have been better if you put 5 minutes to write what made you feel ashamed in the first place. I find it hilarious that the event ashamed you so much that after 25 years all you could show for it was putting 5 Youtube videos. :giggle:

It was loads of Hindu goons attacking innocent Sikhs and burning them alive. Religious fundamentalism affects Hinduism as well.

Abe ganwaar, :) I recently searched for the youtube videos and found them. That is why I posted them. I did not have an epiphany yesterday if that is what you are wondering.

This is not a Hindu vs Sikh thing... Congress workers sparked the riots by claiming Gandhi was the target for her religion not her actions and hence the result. Very Shameful indeed. Back in 80s...India were slave to Congress family...they use to be worshipped by millions...and Congress duly took advantage of that.

Another hyperbole with a total lack of knowledge of 80s. Indians were slave to Congress family? By that I am assuming these riots were everywhere, from Orissa to Lakshwadeep? Maybe in Assam and Tamil Nadu as well?? It is interesting how a predominantly Delhi riot beckons an Indians-slave-to-Gandhi-family argument. By the by how many Indian PMs till date have been half as strong as what Indira Gandhi was?? Had she been in power today you can bet your rear end the world would have been looking at India with lot more respect that we have since putting Rajeev, VP Singh, Vajpayee, Manmohan Singh in power. xxx

Is there a good book or anything on this subject. I was barely at the reading age then so don't know a lot of details except hearsay with different views

I doubt there is any half-decent book on the subject, just as there is no half-decent book on Gujarat riots or Bhagalpur riots. You should be able to find some quality articles about the subject on the web. One thing to keep in mind is Hindus are quick to cover Delhi as "Congress" riots and Gujarat as "BJP" riots. Fact is they, and others, have always been Hindu(or Muslim) riots. When Khushwant Singh deposed in front of Nanavati Commission how he found Sikhs being killed by violent mob while Delhi Police watched as bystanders, he did not for one second suggest Delhi Police were Congress wallahs. Its time Hindus got off their moral highgrounds and accepted Delhi riots for what it was. xxx

>By the by how many Indian PMs till date have been half as strong as what Indira Gandhi was?? Indira in later part become power hungry. Just check how many CMs did he sack. How many times she wanted states under president rules. He got corrupted by power. She was really good in her initial years. So today she would have been even more corrupt I would imagine. >One thing to keep in mind is Hindus are quick to cover Delhi as "Congress" riots and Gujarat as "BJP" riots. Fact is they, and others, have always been Hindu(or Muslim) riots. Absolutely great point. Gujarat riots happened due to Sabarmati incidence. Has there been riots after that? Same BJP gov. is still in power?? Most ppl ignore that significant hindus did die and lot of damages to their property took place. I can vouch for that, my cousins shop was burnt and he had to rebuilt it. Did government help him anyways, heck no, even though ppl claim Modi is Muslim hater blah blah, should his government help hindus financially if that was the case.

Most people charged' date=' convicted, and sentenced in the '93 Mumbai riots were Hindus. Your point?[/quote']Jagdish Tytler had no role in 93 Mumbai riots as far as I know. I was replying to a post about the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.
